The solar panels and the batteries are astonishing! The aftermarket scene is actually integral to the preparation of overland vehicles. It's little wonder that the 70 series delivers such a spartan feature set, when in fact they can deliver rock solid fundamentals and leave fitting out of components to a maturing aftermarket industry which can better fit a vehicle for specific engagements. In a way it allows Toyota to concentrate on delivering an exceptional primary build.

Waawaawewaa, look at that!!! Recipo Saws or Grinders for panel work, very hard to watch. Awesome Electrical system, best i have seen, perhaps a fully configurable BMS would have been better than the Redarc, you can then custom configure the charging profile to match the battery manufactures specs. Regardless, it is spectacular quality of workmanship. Credit to the fitter. Hope you get many years out this vehicle.

I hope to be an overlander in Canada soon as I am planning on buying an overland rig shortly and exploring the wilderness Canada has to offer. Any suggestions/recommendations for a vehicle? Thanks, and I'm looking forward to more on your Troopy build and adventures! cheers :)

Hello Andrew, thanks for the build update. Great work, but it begs one question: When you built the previous troopy, you emphasised the quick and ready access to your camera equipment, through the "gull wing" behind the driver. In this build that "gull wing" is used to access the shower. You have made no mention, that I can recall, about where you are stowing your camera equipment for quick and ready access!!

As an operating engineer.the term boiler caught my attention. Here in the U.S. boiler refers to a pressure vessel, a steam producer. I can’t help but think you meant hot water heater as i have no idea why you would need steam while overlanding.

Finally! Battery technology is starting to catch up with everything else. If those new batteries do perform as they say they will then they will take the RV market by storm. I am so fed up with carrying so much extra weight in batteries but only getting half the usable amps out of them. We carry 5 (yes 5) big batteries and that is a huge amount of extra weight. The troopy is looking lovely, probably the last time we will see it in such a nice clean condition though once the red dust gets into it :) I hope you will do a review on the Snomaster fridge/freezers as their real average draw rate would be interesting to know. They state between 2.5-5 amps but what does that equate to over 24 hours? We are still sticking with Engel as they are the lowest average draw we have been able to find but if these turn out to be better it will be of great interest.

Lead Crystal not so new and I think only one company makes them. Had one as my second battery in my Discovery and it lasted less than 2 years. I would have gone for Lifepo4. Much more expensive but better in every aspect. The weight savings alone would make me jump to Lithium.

I avoid night driving if at all possible. But because its sometimes impossible to avoid, and after a lot of research as well as being offered sponsorship of several different makes, I have approached RIGID. IMHO, while there are a lot of crappy lightbars on the market, ARB is not one of them.
@okm88

4xoverland I beg to differ, while I understand why the prices of arb is so much higher than the competition mainly due to the huge workforce they have but arb aren't as good as they were in lighting especially led technology at the beginning. I never understand why the diff breathers, that I think I can see behind his hands at the start, are as low as the original 'snorkel' for the thing? Surely they should breath higher?
@adventurehungry
7 жыл бұрын
assumptions are: the car is not instantly submerged to the depth of the or above the breathers the diff breather is only to cater for the air expansion during driving and contraction when hitting cold water, probably 1-2 litres of air once it equalised the temperatures and pressure its not going to breath further, as in its not consuming air like engine. theoretically you can drive through deep water without diff breathers also if you park your car in the water at diff level depth to let them cool down and then drive through deep water, it should not inhale any water then
@thenakinavy
7 жыл бұрын
that makes a lot of sense the diff is going to cool well before the water gets up to where they are! Thanks for the reply!
