@@tyberius5615 their strength differences have more to do with training history and strength specific programming given the fact that strength is a skill - movement specific variation, higher frequency, reps in reserve to maintain movement integrity, etc. progressive overload is important for both strength and size, and both camps will tell you not to force progression, but for different reasons: for size, it’s important not to force progression bc it might lead to you sacrificing the quality of your technique, which will lead to you getting less stimulus from the set. Which will eventually sabotage your own progress. Think of guys who bounce squats aggressively, sacrifice depth, bounce the bar off the chest, swing curls, etc.

Optimal really is a process, and it's very individual. Every time I get asked about what is "the optimal" exercise for blah blah blah muscle group or why I'm doing a particular lift, I understand where it's coming from, but there's a lot going on under the surface of why certain advanced lifters do certain things.
@BasementBodybuilding

I started out watching many other amazing content creators as well but your content is like the glue that sealed all the training knowledge together and created a complete picture. Im using a program based off your 5 day PPL program and its working fantastically. yup! i feel like a lot of experienced bodybuilders forgot the what it's like to have a newbie's attitude. lots of "what i wish i did when i started" videos and it's this hyper-optimal 3x a week compound program with meteoric progression. people forget that for newbies, the gym is intimidating and confusing and smells funny. that it's awkward to ask your turn at the power rack and roll over a bench from across the room. that if you deadlift and squat 3x a week, you're going to be in pain on a daily basis. the biggest threat to a newbie's progress isn't suboptimization. it's giving up. imo taking advantage of newbie gains means going easier, having fun, getting those gains anyway, and then using that initial success to fuel your desire to optimize.
@BasementBodybuilding
Ай бұрын
Good points. I think it’s super individual when it comes to new lifters, a one size fits all approach probably won’t work. For some, it’s about getting them results quickly so they see it’s worth their time and it is possible to grow, for others they just need to learn how to train hard or accept that it’s a difficult process, and work towards becoming comfortable in an uncomfortable environment

The outdoor thumbnail strikes again. I think you have to enjoy what you do for workouts.....but the more consistent you get with movements and the more you can improve, the more you start to enjoy those movements. So if someone always skips calves because they "hate calf training", they might just hate calf training because they get terrible soreness when they knock out that once a month workout. And never improve because they only train calves monthly. On the other end of it....if someone starts training calves consistently and starts seeing improvement they will more then likely start to look forward to training calves. The motivation shows up after we start usually. Side note we should all train calves. Great video @basementbodybuilding

My problem with optimal is how much you're REALLY gaining if you choose an "optimal" exercise. For example, I highly doubt that switching from a classic OHP to a seated DB OHP will cause your shoulders to have a noticeable different. I haven't seen one be better than the other in my own training. In conclusion, every exercise (within reason) works, and once you train long enough, you'll end up doing all the exercises anyways. There's only so much a natural can grow anyways, so I'd rather enjoy the journey than be anxious about gaining at an "optimal" rate, because we won't know what our optimal progress is.

Much appreciated. The leanness standards in this industry are crazy, and usually skewed from body dysmorphia. I’m gonna keep posting what I believe is a good look, regardless of whether the industry sees me as fat lol

I’m still an optimal bro, but I do think it goes beyond jusy enjoyment or biomechanics with no other context

I’m sorry but “biomechanics” is ridiculous to me. Some People say dips aren’t “optimal” because they aren’t doing the exact biomechanical function of your chest, yet people have been building big chest with them for decades. They say compounds aren’t “optimal” because some muscles wont become fully developed. Truth is in order to be 100% optimal you have to treat the gym like a job. Do 80 different exercises for every single muscle on your body and completely take out all the fun.

Understanding biomechanics is an incredible tool to have for lifting. The problem isn’t biomechanics, it’s people pretending to understand it when they don’t. So if people are saying dips aren’t optimal, don’t fault biomechanics, blame the person that said that
