Most customers get the hardware from Vivint at a reduced rate to sign a contract, just like your cellphone, or at least thats the way it was when i signed on. Its not in Vivint's interest to sell you cheaper hardware just to let you go to someone else for monitoring. If your desire is cheaper monitoring, then you should probably look elsewhere for hardware. That said, ive been a Vivint customer for years. Never really had a problem with their customer service, except extended troubleshooting calls prior to sending a tech out. The techs seem to be local contracted guys who are pretty helpful and knowledgeable. I am not shilling for vivint, just noting my personal experience. Seems like a lot of folks who complain about customer service from ANY company call in with a "Karen" attitude and get crap service in return. I get much better service with a nicer attitude because it most certainly disarms the reps on the other end of the phone line.

It's always good to hear a positive story as well. We decided years ago to make it as inexpensive as possible and the customer has the master codes so they are in charge and have no term contracts so they can pick from lots of monitoring stations. When Vivint went proprietary, it was a decision to screw the consumers. We've seen ADT dealers, GE Security and Monitronics all go bankrupt and having a system that can only work with one station is a HUGE problem in my professional opinion.

He left due to threat of police and our “arms” ( BB GUNS! ) the police arrived and I was excited to show hi who he was. Only video we had was me and my wife, kids and dogs logging out entry and departures. Wow super helpful. Vivent did not track burgler or rober. Don’t feel bad about dropping them as they have obligations in their contract to be up front and tell you about system limitations. One day I may end up on court I’m not sure? I have read many comments talking about how a closed system (i.e. proprietary) is more secure than an open system (i.e. one anyone else can take over). The simple answer is this.. There is no such thing as unhackable technology, no matter if closed source proprietary or open source. To me, it's up to each individual which they prefer. Whether they prefer a system they can have monitored by another or one that's proprietary. Each has valid pros and cons. I just wanted to clarify a common misconception that many have in regards to closed source being allegedly more secure.

Nicholas, there are some advancements in the last 24 months that have set several systems apart. The system we offer is encrypted from the end devices to the panel and from the panel to the monitoring station. A teenage kid can use an RF sniffer and catch the RF signal transmitted by most door/window contacts and motion sensors. I won't go into all that they can do with those signals but they can really cause problems. Your comment is very valid. Any system can be hacked but not every system has multiple vulnerabilities that even stupid thieves can bypass. Most of the big companies are not even talking about the newest levels of encryption because the sensors cost them a few dollars more and they care more about bigger profits, longer contracts and the bottom line than your family's safety. Thank you for the comment.

Why would you settle for a pinto when you can get the cadillac? The panel I started out with was basically the standard of what use to be the top tier, they look cheap and these newer panels look so much more fresh and updated. Their model of pricing and costs is way better than it used to be. I've been with them for over 10 years, almost since they've been around. I personally know our local tech, and have had issues with a few of their employees over my time, but you're going to get that with everyone. They have a better camera system now than they did just within the last few years. I know all the ins and outs of the system and if I don't know something, I can find it out. Anyway, i totally understand why they would want to make their own panels. I would think it would be more cost effective by building in house, i wouldn't want to have to keep paying someone else to provide something I could do on my own, and that's what they did. And our sensors and cameras are the same way. It's easy for someone to takeover a system that is already in the house, and it's really cheap to do so, if they have trouble talking to someone send them my way. I'll explain all they need to know. And yeah I've seen all the comments, they just didn't deal with the right person. There has been communication issues that should've been fully explained and sometimes that doesn't happen.

Here’s the difference, you tell me which is better. ADT, Brinks, CPI, This guys company, Ring, Nest, Front point, Vector, etc. These companies buy products from different companies, for example Panel- IQ2 or Honeywell or 2Gig Sensors- 2Gig, Honeywell, DSC Locks, Yale’s, Schlage, kwikset Doorbell cameras - skybell Outdoor cameras - HD300, or alarm.com App - alarm.com So it all “should” work together but none of it is DESIGNED to work together. It works but it’s a bunch of different parts connected into an umbrella app - alarm.com that allows companies to use its platform. That is why you can only view cameras on the phone app and not the panel. Vivint, and it’s pronounced Vi-Vint as in Vih-Vihnt Makes and manufactures all of its own equipment, it does partner with some like kwikset, myq, Phillips hue, smart speakers, nest thermostats but that’s for the customers best interest and for broad appeal. The panel, the app, the cameras, the smoke detector, the sensors, the element thermostat, the smart drive is all designed and made to work together that’s why vivint has its one proprietary app, it’s designed specifically for the Vivint equipment. So every other company buys equipment from these other dealers sells them to you at a marked up price and that’s why some companies probably this guys company used panels that’s are 7-10 years old and sells them as the “latest and greatest” Vivint you’re buying from vivint, and it’s all top of the line tech

Just because you as a local “dealer” can’t overtake a system does not mean it is flawed or not customer friendly. The reason you can overtake monotronics, ADT, or any other company is because they all use the same piece of crap cheap equipment. Vivint isn’t like that. They manufacture their own equipment, which is actually high quality and works for customers. Look up top alarm companies and you’ll see vivint as number one on almost every website(scroll past the ads of course). Appreciate that your trying to help and educate people with your videos, but your dead wrong with this one.

3 days to cancel is actually the notice of cancelation period and is extended for senior citizens out to 30 days and in most states, if not all, it is required by law to provide a customer with a 3 day notice of cancelation period. You have a better chance of dying from covid than randomly selecting a angry customer out of their 1.7 million.) The fact that customers take to the BBB to get their issues resolved isn't surprising to me. Generally when a customer has an issue they can get a little annoyed and tend to take their anger out on companies in the form of reviews. The vast majority of complaints on the BBB have been resolved to both the customers expectations and the BBB Agent's satisfactory.
