The Tubes are one of the best bands ever, great players, satire, comedy, colossal stage sets, costumes, they were doing the whole multimedia thing with banks of tv screens at their shows in the 70's! Roger Steen is perhaps the most gifted and ignored guitar player in history, there's literally no style he can't play like a pro, the whole band were super gifted musicians, but he is up in the stratosphere. For more, id say, Don't Touch Me There, Mondo Bondage and What Do You Want From Life. Thers a superb live album, as you have heard!

Saw them in Manheim, Germany in 1978, during a blizzard. Only around 500 people showed up, no one in the seats and the floor (hockey rink size) was only half full. Squeeze was the opening act. The Tubes played for over 2 1/2 hours and were fantastic! Best concert ever! Over 30 costume changes, unreal! When they came out for their 4th encore, I yelled out "White Punks!" Fee yelled back, "We don't play that anymore." The crowd went silent. Then they blew everybody away with first an Opera version of WPOD, then just went tore the roof off with this version.

@@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering Yeah, I can see why you may have been initially unimpressed, if you were expecting it to be another over the top Tubes extravaganza .. Haven't even watched yet, but the fact that you guys are reacting to this one puts you in a special class imo.👍 You're the first reactors I've seen react to this old Tubes song. My own very first Tubes experience was a 'Rockpalast' TV/radio simulcast in '83: I was 13 then, and I admit the actual music had gone right past me, mostly because of their crazy stage show and the two female dancers in particular 😅 And it was only years later that I found out Nina Hagen's 'TV Glotzer' actually was a German cover of this Tubes song and even more recent that I learnt 'She's A Beauty' _also_ is one of their songs! There's another song I'd already known for eons before finding out it too is by The Tubes, but I can't remember its title right now 🙂

Yeah, Nina Hagen's German lyrics are about a TV addict: 'TV Glotzer' = literally 'TV Gawker' 😄 It had been my very first impression of her music, now 45 years ago, and I found out only much later that it actually was a cover 😅 Musically a very close one, too! Her backing band was pretty good, and they later were very successful (in Germany) under the names 'The Spliff Radio Show' (fronted by Australian singer Alf Klimek) and then just 'Spliff', with drummer Herwig Mitteregger and keyboardist Reinhold Heil sharing most of the lead vocal duties. Their style and lyrics had fit in perfectly with the Neue Deutsche Welle ('New German Wave'), Germany's take on New Wave music and pretty much the only occasion I've ever liked German vocals 😄 Nena's '99 Luftballons', 'Da Da Da' by Trio and Peter Schilling's 'Major Tom' are NDW songs that were Hits also outside of Germany, and I heard all three of them also on NZ radio 😀
