Some people have reported there is (can be?) some flicker when playing with local dimming + VRR even with the latest firmware. I was playing Cyberpunk 2077, Dying Light 2 and AC Valhalla without any issues (plus some other games, but those ran higher FPS). If you have something that can be reproduced, let me know what hardware, game, setting, scene and so on.

I looked at Cyberpunk 2077, Dying Light 2 and Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Without upscaling the first two especially are easy to get around 50-70 FPS, but they seemed completely fine. To clarify: this is with HDR and VRR on.

I saw from monitors unboxed channel that local dimming in SDR applications like regular desktop usage and web browsing totally destroys the colors and brightness tracking. is this your experience as well? I can't stand IPS-related contrast and glow issues, but don't really have the budget to stretch to the Neo G7 either. I would hope local dimming can give deep blacks when doing regular web browsing/desktop apps stuff.

@@TechTesters I experienced it in Kingdom Come Deliverance. Because the sky is pretty bright in that game (daytime) it's easier to see. When VRR is disabled, it stopped flickering (on my panel at least). This is with the updated firmware of course. To note, I could not notice it in every game, but Kingdom Come was the worst, though I also saw it in Skyrim and Death Stranding. I tested with local dimming on and off in both the monitor settings and in windows (11), I even tried every connection (DP, HDMI and USB-C), but it didn't matter. Using HDR or SDR didn't matter either. The only thing that would make the flickering go away was disabling VRR. I'm not saying it isn't there in darker games, but it's harder to notice.

It's so close to my dream monitor. I want 27" 4k, but I need a real gsync module and I need WAY more local dimming zones. Even at 10k zones, that comes out to a grid with a resolution of approx 144x72. Imagine if you stretched a 144x72 resolution image across your entire 27" monitor, that's how big the zones are. That's still really big compared to per pixel lighting, but to my eyes testing it with various game screenshots, it's definitely small enough that the bloom shouldn't be apparent to the eye in most scenarios. It'll still fail a star field test but at least for regular content it would look superb. Hopefully it won't take another 10 years to get there.

@@laggmonstret Not viable for a desktop unfortunately. My screen is on upwards of 12 hours a day, most of that time it's showing the taskbar and title bars. Even if I only use it for gaming/movies, I hate how dim OLED is. It's a shame because the underlying tech is fantastic and checks off nearly all the boxes. Super fast response times, infinite black depth, no bloom, perfect viewing angles. But the lack of brightness and the burn in factor makes it DOA to me.
