OMG you even added the hambone. its hard to find recipes for split pea soup with the ham in it. i can't make it without that gem. sounds lilike he wanted you to leave some big chunks of ham in there so he might find a prize. my guys love it when they get a bigger chunk of ham so i have even saved a few chunks from the original ham to throw in for a surprise. the guys are pretty leary of the green soup. even though they had it before, but when i make it we never have leftovers.

Girl, someone would have to be afraid of being under that blanket with you if you eat that gigantic bowl of pea soup! Just teasing you, good job on the soup, thats exactly how id make it, too.

This was a good recipe. My dad loved it! Only substitutions were yellow split peas and provisions (potatoes, yams, cho cho ). Can’t wait to have another bowl for dinner tonight. OPTIONAL: Add dumplings. (If you’re Caribbean, you know what I mean.)

That looks so yummy. I'm moving in 🙂 I'll bring my Hexclad set so its okay lol. Couple of questions -- what kind of onions do you use? Is there a good option if you aren't really big into ham and will never have a big ham bone laying around? Ham is good in the soup. I'm just never going to make that much ham. BTW split pea and lentil are my two favorite soups. Oh, I did make a pumpkin soup from scratch once. I'm talking about from a whole pumpkin "scratch". That was a job.

Thank you! Haha I don’t know if we have room here with all these kids and Juicy Joe and I. 😂 I always use yellow onions. They’re my fave. If you don’t have a big ham like that, you can just buy some ham hocks and place them in the soup the same way. Then buy maybe a little extra ham to cut up and throw in at the end. Just get that ham flavor if there somehow and you really can’t over cook the ham in the soup. Wow that pumpkin soup sounds like a bear! Thanks for watching!

Happy New Year Tara. I just made a pot this weekend, one of my favorites except i use either a smoked ham hock or , if I can find one, ham shank. Have you made lentil soup yet?
