I remember hearing a hint of the theme in The Winter Soldier, when Steve is in the museum. Maybe there’s other uses of it I can’t think of. But even if that’s true, there’s still the larger problem: the MCU hasn’t developed or returned to the musical themes created for its characters, hasn’t made use of leitmotifs really at all, and in general hasn’t created a consistent soundscape for its world. It’s an unforced error too: Marvel Studios has hired some of the best composers working today to score their movies. But their willingness to throw out (almost) all the music created for prior films for each new MCU entry shows Marvel doesn’t appreciate the emotional significance of music the same way they do for story and character. That’s why I say it’s tragic.

I've actually started my MCU Marathon, I'm at Iron Man 3, and even though Tony is my favorite character, I'm closer to Steve at heart, just being a nobody who isn't necessarily longing for recognition, but asking for an opportunity with a certain sense of obligation, the whole "Men are risking their lives out there and I have no right to do any less than them." synchronizes with me, when confronted by Red Skull he is asked "What's so special about you?" and he replies with "Nothing, I'm just a kid from Brooklyn." I love that line, because coming from a family with a mother as a professor and a father as an engineer, being the intellectually weakest kid out of the three, my strength really exists with the heart and wisdom I have. I guess, I just really like Cap's characterization all throughout his arc, regardless of my biased favoritism of Tony.

The real implications of Rogers' line to the Skull go even deeper, "Johann Schmidt" is the German equivalent of "John Smith" and everything about the Skull is driven by his desire to prove he wasn't just some mutated reject but even superior to the Nazis who banished him. Steve, his Counterpart, refuses to join in this madness and reaffirms he's the same guy he always was. To Schmidt, it's Rogers basically saying that despite his empowering he's still a man. Which would mean that Schmidt really isn't a superior man either.

Cap trilogy is the best and most wholesome in the MCU, imho. The First Avenger is no less valuable than the other two movies, and what a cast they managed to assemble 😍 Just those not mentioned in the video: Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci, Dominic Cooper all managed to create wonderful, memorable characters in quite short screen time they had. The movie's score is great, it captures that retro 40s feel beautifully. Whenever I rewatch CAtFA, there's always this feeling of wanting more...more stories from Steve's WW2, particularly about Howling Commandoes. Re Bucky Barnes: he's my absolute fave along with Steve and the reason that got me into MCU (which happened after I watched the Winter Soldier). But even though I disagree about the "boring" part, I do think that Bucky is just used as a tool to influence Steve's actions. Which is a waste of a fantastic character - a mistake that hopefully will be resolved in Winter Soldier & Falcon tv series.

Agreed. Winter Soldier is built around Cap's relationship with Bucky - and that relationship just doesn't really work, it wasn't earned. Whereas The First Avenger is built around Cap's relationship with Peggy, which is MUCH more fleshed-out and meaningful. So, TFA has a lot more heart. Winter Soldier just doesn't feel very cathartic in comparison. Cap suffers a lot more in TFA, too, which makes his story more compelling - he loses everything and everyone, by the end of the movie. In Winter Soldier, on the other hand, Cap doesn't really lose anything, so his story feels less weighty.

Seriously Captain America: The First Avenger is so underrated yeah I get how great what the Russos did with the character but there's something very endearing and earnest about this movie mission in today's superhero movies with only some superhero outings like Shazam returning back to this style. Also if the movie and I think more importantly, Chris Evans, didn't sell us on skinny Steve, we wouldn't have cared about the rest of his journey in the MCU, because skinny Steve represents the core of who Captain America is and what does he stand for. The muscles, strength, extra endurance, and agility are just the toppings and this why ultimately, I think Captain America: The First Avenger might just be the most important outing in Cap's journey even if later outings like Civil War and Winter Soilder are better written and just overall all-around better films.

I also love how they embraced the propaganda style that the early cap comics clearly were. And incorporated that into his origin. I’ve always loved this film and debate it whenever i hear my mates do mcu rankings 😂

Glad to see someone else enjoyed it too, by far not the best MCU movie, but it had good action, great Characters, an unforgettable soundtrack, and by far the most heart. I truly loved and appreciated this movie. It started Captain America's journey really well, and set up an epic trilogy. 8.9/10 for me.

You should add something about Alan Silvestri's magistral soundtrack. Triumphant Return is, with avenger's theme, the best themes in the MCU

Totally agree! Glad you made this no one ever talks about this movie. It didn't have to copy the tone of iron man (like DC does) it had its own feel and I respect that.

First Avenger is great, and is underrated, but I would argue Iron Man 2 and 3 are even more underrated. I'm rewatching the MCU for endgame, and I was genuinely surprised at how good those films were compared to how they are reflected upon my most people (including myself, until I rewatched them).

This was always one of my favorite MCU movies. He's a true good guy. So many movies have terrible people playing the good guy and he's only seen as a good guy because he's going against the bad guy. Cap isn't like that

You managed to put all my feelings about this movie into the words that I couldn’t seem to get out. I do think this is the most underrated movie and it is one of my favorites. And as much as I love the movies with all my favorite characters like Iron man, Spider-Man, Black Panther, good ol’ Cap himself, I can’t help but feel that stories that encompasses only one hero at a time truly sells it to me. That, and I prefer a smaller cast like in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, the first Iron man, and of course Captain America: The First Avenger.

The "Good Man" scene between Dr. Erskine and pre-procedure Steve is imo the best scene in the MCU and (at least should've been) the mission statement for the entire franchise. Plus it ends with a great joke.

While I wouldn't say it's better than Winter Soldier or Civil War it's definitely one of the most underatted MCU flicks out there and did the impossible for me in making Cap a more than likeable character. I did not care for this character at all until this movie came out and credit to Chris Evans who I thought, like everyone else did at the time, was a questionable hire given his track record as most narcisstic bro types managed to become this generation's Christopher Reeves. The movie really pushes through that ideal of being good just because you should and I really liked it for that.

This movie does not get the love it deserves. It's time for that to change. Also in defense for Joe Johnston for Disney's Nutcracker, he only directed the Reshoots and received credit for it so I doubt he was personally involved with the film.
