"The Visitors" is the eighth studio album by the Swedish pop group ABBA. It was released on 30 November 1981, and was the group's last album before their first split in 1982.
The group's work began on 16 March 1981, when the first three tracks of the album were recorded. The first one was "Slipping Through My Fingers", where Björn took inspiration from his daughter Linda. The second, "When All Is Said And Done", was sung by Frida and afterwards Björn would accept that he wrote the lyrics based on Benny and Frida's divorce. Finally, the third title to be recorded, "Two For The Price Of One", was a more rhythmic and upbeat song, but not as upbeat as his previous 70s songs; with Björn as lead vocalist, its lyrics told the story of a single man who meets his match in a classified ad.
Further sessions were held on 25 May, when three songs were also started. "I Am A Seeker" was never used by the group, "Givin' A Little Bit More" was not released until 1994 on ABBA Undeleted; and the demo "Another Morning Without You" would be used later that year.
Work on the album was delayed until 2 September, when the track "Tango" became "Head Over Heels", the album's second single. The following day the track "I Let The Music Speak" is recorded. On 4 September, the track "Underbar", which would be released as a B-side to "One Of Us", is created under the title "Should I Laugh Or Cry".
On 15 October, the recording of the track "Peasants", later called "Soldiers", takes place. On 21 October, the track "Mi Amore", the pre-title of "One Of Us", the first single from the album, is created. The next day the recording of the title track "The Visitors", first called "Den Första", takes place. Finally, on 10 November, work is completed on the demo of "Another Morning Without You", which, after several months of work, becomes "Like An Angel Passing Through My Room", the last track on the album to be recorded.
On 3 May 1982, the group returned to the studio with intentions of creating a new album, with the recording of "You Owe Me One". On 8 May "Hurry" becomes "I Am The City" and on 28 May the recording of the final mix of "Just Like That" takes place. However, plans to release a new album were abandoned as the sessions were not progressing and the band opted to release a compilation of their most successful singles, entitled The Singles - The First Ten Years, which would contain two new songs.
On 2 August, ABBA began what would be their last recordings, with the recording of "El Paso", later to be called "Cassandra", and "Under Attack", the group's last single. Finally, on 20 August 1982, the recording of "The Day Before You Came" took place, a single released weeks later, and the last song recorded by ABBA, until the release of the album Voyage in 2021.
