I loved Grandpa.. Will Geer was awesome and so was Ellen Corby as grandma. I was a young kid when the show began. I thought it was real. There was a couple of things I thought was realistic... On the bedrooms doors, they were dirty. Because they were kids who played outside in the dirt. But one thing kinda scary was those kids and grandpa would stand in the back of that pickup truck. Sometimes they would sit on the edges of that truck. After Will Geer passed away, the show wasn't the same. And then Ellen Corby was away, then they lost Richard Thomas. And Olivia, John, and the show faltered. My favorite now was Jason. Great talent.

Grandpa was my favorite ❤. He was light and funny for his entire run of the show. I was really sad when he passed away. I was kinda upset when Michael Learned didn't want to do it anymore, but I understood it's her life, her decision, but then we lost Ralph too. It was just so much. Grandpa died (nothing could be done), John-boy left, Olivia & John left, Grandma left (medical issues, nothing could be done.) They did the best they could with what was left of the cast. Which meant that they grew up faster then they would have in years.

My mother loved the show so much that her opinion of every other show was based on whether it was as good as or not as the Waltons. Of course, in her eyes, no show was ever better. She was born in 1930 and could relate to many of the story lines. When she got older and I was taking care of her I eventually bought her all the episodes on DVD. She and 2 of her sisters also took a road trip to Virginia to visit the museum and loved it all. My mother passed away in 2016.

I agree that it's a great show, but it's probably better for adults, frankly. When I was a kid, I put up with The Waltons just to get to Hawaii 5-0! But now that I'm older, I appreciate The Waltons much more. ESPECIALLY the writing...key members of the cast kept leaving, and yet the show remained very enjoyable....most tv series cannot really withstand losing ONE key character...The Waltons lost John Boy and Grandpa...and Grandma, for the most part, since she could no longer speak normally...John and Olivia were in and out the last few seasons....yet the show was still outstanding, for the most part. The writers adapted quite well to the changing landscape of the available cast.

Thanks for sharing. My whole Family in Selangor, Malaysia 🇲🇾 enjoyed watching Walton's every week and the stories it's almost similar like our maternal grandparents home in Sungei Buloh. Where our siblings enjoyed fishing, swimming, climbing fruit trees, digging for worms, enjoyed birds chirping, the greenery farms, walking or cycling, picking eggs to earned extra pocket money, climbing on grandpa's tractors, playing sand etc. These has all gone and the environment has changed tremendously. Children no longer enjoyed catching crickets, playing mantis or fishing but all networking with their mobiles at a young age of 3!!

There was something to love about all of the characters. The Baldwin sisters were also a lovely addition to the family as were Ike and CoraBeth. Plus you had some really good friends that came in and out of the episodes as well before the kids grew up and got married. Yancy, Ep and Verdi are just a few. I always enjoyed the Waltons and it's fun to see who was on the show in "guest" appearances that went on to become stars on TV or in the movies. If I had the chance to meet grandpa, I would have loved that as I loved him as a character and I'm pretty sure I would have loved Will Greer as well. I loved John and John-boy as well. If I had to live thru the depression, I think being a part of this family would have made it easier to survive. I didn't care for Little House on the Prairie at the time, but I've grown to appreciate it it for what it was, I still love the Waltons more and also like Dr Quinn more for that time period. I like watching the Waltons- never had the chance to see the show's when I was younger due to working. Now that I am retired & able to see the show's stating at 10:00p.m til 2:30 a.m.They bring such good memories of good familyand always helping each other and neighbors.Just as the Bible teach us to love one another and forgive.I never met my grandparnets - they passed away young - but - these grandparents were always there with their stories , good advice & loving arms.As they pass down to their grandchildren & they to their's.These were the good times. You didn't have to be rich. I really enjoy watching every night now.We don't have shows like that anymore.Thank You for the Memories ❤" To The Waltons"💕💕😊

Jim Bob was my favourite character on the Waltons. I don’t think I ever missed an episode and the sight of the sunshine filtering through the trees inspired me to move to Australia from Scotland where you’d rarely see the sun never mind under a tree. However I’m now back in Scotland as the call of family and roots run true, just like the Waltons. One of my three favourite programs ever.

Facts missing about Miss Learned... she was also a alcoholic and a recently divorced single mother who knew Ralph and also got her the job on The Waltons. She and Ralph were extremely close and each relied on the other to keep sober. Miss Learned was quoted ina interview "that if it hadn't been for Ralph she might have died".

I never cared about this show when I was a kid in the 70's. But now...my heart longs all the time to be part of this "family." To have grown up in a family like this...to have family that cares so much for and about you. I know this is a fake family but I also know the Hamner family were similar. I wish I had been born in either family.

You know that family was never really like that. In the first Christmas special before the series, the great Patricia Neal played Olivia Walton. She played her much harsher than Michael Learner. The house in the first Christmas Special was depicted as much smaller and less fancy. I think the first Christmas Special that spawned to series was probably closer to the truth.
