It was a huge shock because the whole thing had been restructured. It wasn't the same and it never would be the same again. Alot of old people objected to it, and no amount of orange juice and triplets would change that in spite of William Hurt. but that's not would and triplets.

Also loved the still shots. The strong profile of Ralph White, and the commanding, matriarchal presence of Ellen Corby. But my 2 favorites are of Elizabeth looking at the cow, and the last one with her going to or coming home from school. Very sentimental😊

There are other versions of The Waltons theme here on,. but this is the one I recall. Whenever I hear this theme, I'm transported back to my grandparents' house. They would be sitting ther in their recliners watching this. If I remember correctly, I believe The Waltons would air on Thursday nights 8:00 PM PST on CBS?

Thursday nights..CBS..time is tricky..lol..7:00 Central Standard Time in KCMO....back then we always heard this..example 'Tuesday at 9pm...8 Central and Mountain...' If you heard an announcer say a time on tv, you just automatically set it back one hour. We understood Eastern time ruled.

I was about Elizabeth's age when I started watching The Waltons regularly with my family. I was too young to comprehend or even remember the plot of each episode, but I always looked forward to the end of each episode when everyone said goodnight to one another. As a family, we imitated the goodnights when we went to bed, and for comic relief I always said, "Goodnight, Elizabeth!" and sometimes my brother blew a big fart. For some reason, in the opening credits to this season I was always scared of the last picture of Elizabeth coming home from school with her book belt and stick. I have no idea why that picture scared me.

The first four or five seasons were pure magic. All the characters had a trait that was started from Episode 1 and carried on for years. Some were more clear or better written. I think Ben & Erin weren’t clearly defined as the others. Ben wanted to work but you never knew in what profession and Erin was the pretty one which was a storyline throughout but wasn’t as strong as Mary Ellen wanting to be a nurse. That said, Erin was my favorite. I was the same age as Elizabeth but I liked older woman then. LOL!!!!

@evolutionarylevelabove3715

Depends on wat type of values you consider good bigotry. I lived through that time & before it . Here in late 2017 there are multiple women coming out to claim they were sexually assaulted by various people years ago like the Movie producer and now even some claiming former President Bush Sr assaulted them from his wheelchair when he was 88. He did touch one from behind in a public picture. I wouldn't call that or him telling a joke to be assault but millions claim it is lack of moral values to not call it assault. I remember back in the times Walton's was on that it was still the usual thing for a woman to be whistled at in public. Many women were still house wives. Many would fix themselves up during the day before shopping to look good around other women and to get ego busted by a whistle or a pinch on the butt in a store from a man they didn't know. Women returning home who weren't at least whistled at were insulted. They would get together and compare to see which one was pinched the most times in the last month etc. Today, a man would go to jail for whistling and spend time in prison for a pinch on the butt. Was that the nation of values you loved so much or is it now with everything is a sexual assault? To me, it's all insanity no matter if 50 years ago or now.
