My mom was a nurse, served in Hong Kong's St Mary's hospital. She linked at a US military hospital in Calcutta, India, serving General Claire Chanault's American Volunteer Group. There, my dad met up with Jack Dong, a pilot with Chinese National Air Corp (later became China Air Transport).

Chinese Canadian soldiers in the First World War faced even worse discrimination and came back to a country where they were not only considered non-citizens but a few years later on Humiliation Day 1923, faced the prospect of never being able to reunite with their families as Canada passed the Chinese Exclusion Act. Canada had decided that the onerous Head Tax was not enough, so they banned all Chinese from immigration.

I think most of you miss the point of their contribution and this clip ! They were born in Canada, probably 2nd or 3rd generation Chinese Canadians that were denied the right to vote and yet donned on the uniform and went to war for Canada, this is a powerful symbol of perseverance. By law you cannot be a soldier if you are not a "citizen" !

This is a great video in terms of highlighting the contribution that Chinese Canadians made to a country that wouldn't even offer them citizenship. One of my best friends is Chinese Canadian and an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces now, so thankfully those days are behind us. But...why are all the moving images in this video of the US Army? Couldn't the producers have shown clips of Canadian soldiers? Wasn't that what the video was about? Chinese Canadians in the CANADIAN Army? Sigh.

Force 136 served secret tasks basically. Not like normal forces.

Perhaps, but they were issued Canadian uniforms upon joining the Canadian Army, not US uniforms, even if they didn't wear any uniform while in the field.
