I remember seeing 850 total tickets purchased, at 35 pounds, approximately $44. So they must've had about $36k to work with; they could've potentially spent all of that and relied on souvenir or candy sales for profit. Not exactly the budget for an Omegamart level experience, but certainly enough to do more than this. This all reads as though the event organizer was in debt, used the ticket revenues to pay that debt, and thought he could put together a bare minimum "you can't sue me" event with what was left. They've promised refunds, but seeing as the actors haven't been paid yet and they spent maybe $500 on decorations, I don't think they have that money on hand. Another compliment to the actors: The Wonka actor interviewed claimed that the day of the event, all the actors had a huddle and said "we probably aren't getting paid for this but let's try our best to give the kids a fun time".

This event delivered tears with gut-crushing mediocrity; the sinking feeling that you got scammed; a surprising lack of candy; overall depression; the painful evidence that late-stage capitalist systems profit from the trends set by the entertainment industry, the cheap, semi-decent labor provided by AI, the innocent, trusting nature of children and the parents that love them; and the Unknown. @aidanwarren4980
7 ай бұрын
One dad interviewed claimed that each of his kids got 2 jellybeans and a half cup of (Tesco's own brand) lemonade. A mom interviewed said the candy station dispensed one jellybean per kid. I read elsewhere that it was a quarter cup of lemonade per kid. All sources say they ran out halfway through the day. The wonka actor performed for three and a half hours straight, finally got a lunch break, and when he returned they were shutting things down. So they kept it together for about five hours (it was supposed to be a two day event). My guess is that the actors started out with a more reasonable portion, quickly their meagre supply, and rationed tighter and tighter until it ran out. A quick google and basic math shows that you can get a 4lb container of jellybeans for less than $35, which is less than 35 pounds. That container has approx 1500 jellybeans in it, which is twice the number of tickets that were bought. So out of 800 or so tickets, they must have spent less than one ticket's worth of cash on candy! At a WONKA THEMED EVENT.

The pics and text on the website should’ve, at best, been placeholders until actual event photos and human written blurbs were made. This is literally just a real live version of that one Spongebob episode where Mr. Krabs builds Krabby land.

I’m really glad the actors who were hired weren’t blamed for the scam by the victims or even the majority of the Internet. They had no idea how terrible the event would be, and were just there because they were hired to play a role. I’ve seen quite often people who were scammed be rightfully angry, but take it out on the wrong people who had nothing to do with it. Glad this wasn’t one of those cases and people acknowledge the actors tried their best! Just hate that now their names and faces are associated with this catastrophe.

An entire bag of jellybeans usually costs only a few dollars at most. The fact that someone had to spend 40 bucks to get into this place and there kid was only given one SINGULAR jellybean is insane. And apparently Tesco lemonade is like the cheapest of stuff, usually it’s only like 50 cents for a 2L bottle and they were given a quarter cup. That is beyond outrageous, that is straight up criminal. The person who ran this is a bigger cheapskate than Mr Krabs!

"The Unknown" is also the name of the latest killer in the game dead by daylight. I wonder if the AI pulled from that specifically since it'd be trending. Insignificant detail, but if they're connected it's worth a chuckle to me.

Nah he's an original character in the books that hasn't made it on screen in all three movie versions just yet. "The Unknown is an evil chocolate maker who lives in the walls" - the excerpt from the book introducing him. And in another book there are even aliens involved, is what I found by a commenter who had read the books. The entire book series are a wilder ride than we all non-readers can never imagine.

I feel so incredibly bad for the poor green haired lady. She has pretty much become the face of a disaster she had no input in, and will probably not even get paid. What's more is that people who take such jobs tend to love kids, and having to be there for two days while trying to put on a happy face has got to be disheartening. I hope she's doing well and doesn't get abuse from the internet.
