"It's all i've got" makes me cry every time i watch it. As someone who recently turned 30 and whose friends are all wildly more successful than them Gary's character hits really hard. I'm nowhere near as terrible a person as him but the pain of loss of potential is something i keenly feel. Hot Fuzz is my favourite Cornetto movie but this is the only one that makes me cry. Thanks for watching it. Also i'm sure someone else has said it but Gary was hospitalized for attempting suicide, that was where he was at the beginning of the movie. He had decided to try again and wanted to relive his best memory with his friends before he did it. Which makes the entire movie even sadder.

wright has said that this part of the trilogy is one big metaphor for that feeling of when you go back to your childhood/teenage hometown as an adult and everything feels the same but also slightly...off because the town and you have changed in big and small ways since you lived there. gary is so desperate to hold onto his cherished rose-colored memories of that town, something just about everyone feels at one time or another even if they hated growing up, that he's become completely maladapted for adult life. it's inflated nostalgia taken to the (almost) terminal point. (one way or another, by drinking or his own hand, gary was destined to die early and frustrated before the night the world ended.) to me the hometown stuff honestly makes it the most relatable of the series, even if there are bigger laughs in the other two.

Some easter eggs found in the movie: The First Post: Where they started the pub crawl The Old Familiar: Similar looking pub to the first one and where they met O-Man's sister (an old familiar, since Gary, Andrew and her have history). The Famous Cock: Gary was barred and cock is slang for a jerk/asshole. The Crossed Hands: Where they met the robots and when they left the pub they crossed hands The Good Companions: They entered acting like they don't know about the robots to not arouse suspicion (The sign of the pub is of a theatre mask) The Trusty Servant: Where they met the Reverend Green who is now a crony of the robots The Two Headed Dogs: Where they met the twins The Mermaid: Where they met the "Marmalade Sandwich" who are acting as the siren to lure them. The Beehive: Where they fought in the past and in the present. A place crawling with robots and where Mr Shepard told them about the robots and their hive mind The Kings Head: They went in after Gary banged his head to the wall to show that he isn't a blank The Hole in the Wall: The beast ran through the pub creating an actual hole in the wall The World's End: Where the world ended. The names: Gary "King": The leader of the group, Andy "Knight" ley: Gary's trusted best friend and guardian, Steven "Prince": Gary's rival and 2nd to Gary for Sam, Oliver "Chamberlain": Chamberlain are household managers and he sells houses, Peter "Page": a page is a boy in training, Gary said that Peter is someone who the group always look after.

@latech7671

There is a lot of deeper meaning behind all three cornetto-movies. Most of the meaning actually comes from personal experiences of Wright, Pegg and Frost. I know that the first one was because Pegg and Frost were stuck in this loop where every day seemed so similar and Wright wanted to get them out of it (he was basically the Girlfriend). The second one I have forgotten right now but I know that one underlying reason was that they wanted to make a Coop-Movie that showed the (british) Coop-Job as amazing during a time where the cinema was bombarded by Gangster-Movies and one reason was literally because Edgar Wright wanted to have a big shootout in his hometown (Newton Haven, the set, is the town he grew up in). I don't know all the details about the bigger story behind The Worlds End (it is probably the one I know the least about) but I do believe the main reason why it happened like this is because Pegg had a massive Alcohol-Addiction Problem during his career which almost destroyed his career and life and I think this was his way to cope with that story and relay to others how dangerous stuff like this is.

Appropriate that you've recently watched A Few Good Men. Think back to the scene where Markinson gets into his full dress uniform before blowing his brains out, George called it the second he saw the uniform on the bed. This is basically what Gary King was doing in the movie - he shaves, gets into his sisters of mercy 'dress uniform' and arranges one final hurrah, at the end he was planning to kill himself - ending it on a high. So glad that unlike most reactors you did all three films. I hope you don't mind me recommending one you won't ever have heard of. IT's an iconic British film and very important in movie history, as well as being a great laugh. Ealing Studios, Kind Hearts and Coronets. The first really dark comedy, it stars Dennis Price, Valerie Hobson, Joan Greenwood with the great Alec Guinness who is playing no less than 8 different roles. The American censors were so outraged by the film that they insisted on half of Greenwoods lines being cut and the ending of the movie being changed for the American release. The original British version is a must watch for a film buff and yet no one seems to have done a reaction to it. In June 2019, a new 4k restoration scanned from the 35 mm nitrate original negative was released by Studiocanal in UK cinemas, along with DVD and Blu-Ray versions. So it is out there to watch and react to....please, please, consider doing so..

For further viewing, an unofficial fourth entry of sorts into the series, 2011's Paul does okay. It's not directed by Wright and despite being written by and starring Pegg and Frost the humour feels more American, which could be down to the setting and the rest of the cast. I don't personally think it's as good as the official Cornetto Trilogy but it has enough there to still make it a lot of fun. Alternatively, or additionally, the British TV show Spaced is a must watch for Cornetto Trilogy fans. It is the precursor and foundational work of sorts for the movies featuring a lot of cast that are scattered across the trilogy including Pegg as one of the leads and Frost in a supporting role and it has Wright directing. Jessica Hynes (formerly Stevenson) who is Pegg's co-star and one of the creators and writers on the show should not be overlooked either. People will recognise her as being Yvonne in Shaun of the Dead, she was the leader of the other group encountered who also appears at the end when the army arrive. Spaced only ran for 2 short seasons comprising of 16 episodes in total that are each less than half an hour long, so it's not a big task to get through them. Physical editions I've encountered have included excellent commentary with various high profile guests and a feature where onscreen acknowledgements of pop culture references appear. edit - reading that back I think I sound like an ad 😅

Fun Fact: the comment about the car & it having all its parts replaced is a nod to the classic British sitcom Only Fools & Horses; one of the characters has a sweeping brush which he’d had for years…..despite having the handle & head replaced multiple times.

Lots of the exteriors were filmed in my local town. They held a screening at the local cinema (which appears as a pub, The Mermaid) with Edgar and Simon. I think something like 8 of the pub exteriors were here. Also the place they went for a smoke. One of the pubs is the train station.😁 The UK's first roundabout is here too

Edgar Wright is the undisputed king of visual comedy. He's also great at combining comedy with tragedy, and this film's a great example.

A small village with 12 pubs is... not unheard of. The UK has an average of 1 pub for every single square mile.

I just recently found your channel. You are among the best of this genre I’ve found. Simone’s emotions and levity and George’s technical analysis work so well together. Both have a great sense of humor. Thank you for the entertainment.

The TV show from AMC "Into The Badlands" was really good, and then Nick Frost was introduced in the second season and made it awesome. He is amazing in that show. His fighting scenes are crazy to watch.

You gotta walk a fine line between being in touch with your younger self while being a totally functional adult, Gary is one of those sad cases but the people who are adults and keep saying they are "too old to do x" are kind of pitiful too.

The pub crawl of all pub crawls, I give you, 'The Circle Line Challenge'. The Circle line is an underground route around London, with 27 stops, the challenge is to get off at each stop in turn and have a half pint or a shot, within 12 hours, the end is the stop you started at, with the 28th drink. Definitely not for the feint of heart. It is inevitable that various members of the group tap out and will peel away at various times, to head off back to where they are staying, before carnage ensues and their body gives up lol.

That movie was filmed in my home town of letchworth garden city and in Welwyn garden city which is about 20 mins down the rd both built by the same guy. The trusty servant was my local ( three magnets weatherspoons chain pub) all the pubs are so close together and the nightclub is the local cinema 😃

If you want to see another good Simon Pegg, Nick Frost film watch Paul. Also Run Fat Boy Run with Dylan Moran (the friend everyone hates who gets eaten in Shawn of the Dead) is a really good Simon Pegg film (no Nick Frost though).
