+Goose StayTune the point is that they can have something, 5, 10, 20. most of the people in our lives probably wouldn't loan or give money away, but when someone comes into a lot of money people expect to get some. This is just a way to weed out the moochers.
@larjkok1184

So the people who don’t have much money should lend some out? And the person with the money shouldn’t lend any out unless the poorer person does first? If someone needs something they should give away the little they have? A starving person should give away their last food before asking for something to eat from someone who has more than he can eat?
@thisisJim85

+Oggy Oggy Way to misinterpret everything I said. If you suddenly come into millions you'll suddenly have people that you now "owe" them something. Those who have mountains of debt have it because they live outside their means. Is it your responsibility to bail them out? Is it your responsibility to buy everyone you know, or who knows [of] you a car or house? Or things they just want to have? Simply because you have it? Seriously, read the context before trying to sound so pious.

I've given this a lot of thought. 1. Do NOT publicize yourself as winner and wait a few weeks or a month to collect. THIS is the hard part. 2. Don't tell a soul until you've got an attorney, a financial planner and a CPA on RETAINER. Ask around for an attorney you can trust. Ask him his retainer fee FIRST. Pay him more. Ask for HIS financial planner. Pay HIM his retainer, plus a bit more. Same with the CPA. For the love of all that is holy do NOT tell your family and friends you've won until you've got yourself set. And NEVER tell ANYONE the amount. 3. Take a preset sum and buy Greta Garbo's Garter Belt, a solid gold swizzle stick or whatever stupid stuff you've always wanted. Get it out of your system. 4. Take another bit and give it to charities, family or whoever. 5. Find safe investments and live off the interest. The last guy in this list, with over a hundred million, could have EASILY had 2-3 million a year coming in from safe investments. Don't be an idiot. LET THE MONEY WORK FOR YOU!
@jxg1652
6 жыл бұрын
Hmm well... 1.) Wait a few weeks or a month to collect -> Increased chance of losing the ticket. I'd say collect ASAP and put the money on multiple bank accounts. THEN wait a few weeks/months. 2.) Mostly agree. But go to the financial planer of your attorney? Mmmh. Somehow I wouldn't want to take the risk of the attorney and the financial planner being in cahoots with each other. Also, why one? Ok, it depends on the sum - but perhaps it'd be better to have 2 financial planners instead of one. Let one take care of one half of your money, and the other will care for the other. Have them invest in different industrys, that are indepent from each other. Less losses if one of them messes up. Just some minor nitpicks. Can't really argue with 3, 4 and 5. ;) Thumbs up.
@guyfawkes9951

Valid point on the financial planner and possible collusion with the attorney. As far as collecting and then waiting, the vast majority of people wouldn't be able to fight the urge to start spending it.

I agree to a degree. People have expectations of their lifestyle and try to meet them. When you're used to being broke most of the time and having a few spare dollars will results in treating yourself to something nice, then without a mindset change you'll continue on that path. Chose the lifestyle you want to live and just find a way,... it improves lifestyle immensly, with zero extra money. Life is a battle regardless of how you live, so you may as well live better.

Hmm..............I'd invest most of it in low risk yet diversified places. Then, I'd buy a plot of land in the middle of nowhere, build a 5-7 bedroom house with 5-7 baths, pretty big but not a mansion, but I'd make it with that concrete insulation that is super energy efficient and make the house self sustaining using a mix of wind, sun, and possibly hydro depending on what water access rights I'd have to the river running through my land (yes, that's a requirement). Also use geothermal cooling and heating. Have a big garage and a big barn where I can work on projects. 50's chevy truck and rebuilt it on a 1990's 4x4 chassis. Maybe a newer truck just for back up. That'd be it. 2 vehicles, a decent house that is self sustaining, and investments. Oh, and a nice library in the basement of my house with a huge leather chair and big oak desk where I can read for hours on end without being disturbed.

I did some calculations and if he donated the Turkeys at say $20 a 30 pound Turkey, it's only $10,000 for 500 20 pound Turkeys. Him donated the Turkeys was actually a good thing. He gave 500 families something to eat for Multiple days. My Family of 5(2 Parents, 3 kids)were able to eat for about 3 days on a 20 pound Turkey. 😀

And people think $27 million is a lot of money. Remember that Mike Tyson had like $350 million and blew all that.
@largol33t1
3 жыл бұрын
One thing was Tyson had a habit of wrecking uber-expensive cars frequently. He always bought them new and sometimes sold the cars just because he was "bored" with them. That's an easy way to blow through several million bucks when you have Ferraris, Rolls Royces and other high end brands in a gigantic multicar garage. He even had his house built with a HUGE indoor swimming pool and the back yard was redone with a concrete path for his pet tiger. Yes, the crazy guy had a pet tiger so he had to pay someone to build a large cage for it.

Been over it 2 many times in my mind. 1 regular car and one really nice travel huge van 4 big family trips. A decent home 5 rooms tops with big yard of course. The only “splurge” would be travel. That’s it. Nothing more needed.

There's some strategy involved with winning a large lottery. Unlike America, Australian lottery draws allow the winners to be anonymous, paid in a lump sum, and it isn't taxed. If you do win the big one, here's some handy hints of what you should put in your contingency plan: 1. KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT. If you start buying a lot of expensive toys, people will ask questions. Don't tell anyone you can't trust to keep quiet about it, and that includes family members. If associates and family are suddenly nice to you, be sure to ask why. 2. Move. While you might like your neighbourhood, visualise what a comfortable house would look like for you. If your answer is "a 50 room mansion," you haven't thought it through. For me it would be a 5 bedroom house, with some big sheds, but surrounded by some acreage. Why? Because it's peaceful, your neighbours can't spy on you, and if you feel the urge to crank up your music at 2am, not a problem 3. Diversify investments. Say you had a $20 million win. Set aside about $5 million of it. Call 20 stockbroking firms, give them $50,000 each, and tell them it's a race. The firm that makes you the most money will control a $4 million portfolio. However they must trade out of bank accounts you nominate (to keep an eye on them) and if they lose more than $20 of the principle (the original $50k) they're fired. 4. Sparingly spend your money. Now that you don't have to work for a living, find a hobby you enjoy, that isn't going to really eat into your cash reserves. Something like high stakes poker is a definite no-no. In my case, I'd likely travel around the country for a year, then find something to go full time on to keep me busy
@NYC1E1

I know they say that money changes people but this would never happen too me. Yes I would buy things like every one else. I would buy a house (not a mansion), a really nice car (Not a sports car) and travel a little. But going on stupid spending sprees and not trying to get deals on what you buy doesn't make logical sense...

I don't have many friends, but those I have are TRUE FRIENDS. Anyone who suddenly wants to be buddy-buddy after I'd won lottery would be around about as long as a snowball in hell. I would move. I would go far enough away so as to not be around anyone who knows me. New phone number - and guarded closely. NO FORWARDING ADDRESS! Absolutely, positively NO "SOCIAL MEDIA"! Basically, disappear as much as one can do. If my name ever came up in anyone's conversation, it would be to say: "I wonder what ever happened to...?"
