This song was written by the Bee Gees for Otis Redding who died in a plane crash before he could record it, so they recorded it.

They did this over 5 decades. They were nowhere near their peak but were still successful. They were still teenagers here, or at least the twins were. Barry was 21. It's the most replayed part because nobody expects that sound to come from Mo lol.

Barry is lead in this song. Robin and Maurice (pronounced Morris nicknamed Mo) backing vocals. Mo absolutely curled my toes with that bit he did! That's why it's most replayed! He was/is my favorite. Fine in any decade🤤

They have been doing this a lot longer than 30 years!!! From the 50's through the 90's!!! Barry is STILL making music! The "guy" you're loving' is Maurice Gibb, Robin's twin brother. The "lead" singer is Barry Gibb, the oldest brother and the only one still living and making music! The had a younger brother, Andy, but he passed away very young just before becoming the 4th Bee Gee!

This beautiful song was written for Otis Redding but before he could have it recorded he died in a plane crash. The Bee Gees decided to go on to record it and of course it's beautiful. They were young here Barry was 20 and the twins were 17, so talented. Great pick

There were 4 Gibb brothers: Barry, Robin, Maurice, & Andy. Andy didn't perform with the brothers long before venturing out on his own. I like the pre-disco Bee Gees "Gotta Get a Message to You" & "Massachusetts".

Way before their Disco days... love it .. Yes I'm old.... I was born this year... but they actually came into their prime when Barry started doing faulcetto in the mid 70's... what you have to love the most about them.. they wrote their own music for themselves and so many other artists.. Celine Dion being just one.. the soundtracks they wrote ... these boys were beyond talented.

I love your reactions to the Bee Gees!! Thanks! The brother at the piano who did that "Oooh no,no" near the end, since the camera was on him, was Maurice. Then when someone sang an ad-lib, echoing Barry (lead singer here) with "you don't know what it's like-" - that's Robin. Now on the recorded track, who's singing what may be different brothers. I'm not sure, bur it sounds like Robin.

They are brothers so grew up singing together in their bedroom, no jealousy just whatever the song requires. In the 60s I would listen to them on my portable record player in my bedroom. Great days. Their name BeeGees comes from their name The Brothers Gibb. Some of the classic songs ever made. 🔥🏴

Contrary to popular belief, the name Bee Gees does not come from the initials of "Brothers Gibb". Early in their career, promoter Bill Goode introduced the Gibb brothers to radio DJ Bill Gates. He named the Bee Gees after his own and Goode's initials. For them it was okay, because Barry Gibb, mother Barbara Gibb and Brothers Gibb also had the initials B and G!

I grew up with this great group & had a lot of their albums. Most people react to their disco era. My favorites are from the 60's-70's. Some of their early hits were "New York Mining Disaster 1941", "Holiday", "World", "And The Sun Will Shine", "Really & Sincerely", "The Singer Sang His Song", "Lonely Days", "Melody Fair", "First Of May", "I Started A Joke", "I've Gotta Get A Message To You", "Massachusetts" etc.

They started when Barry was 9 and twins were 6. One of my first songs that introduced me to them, back when I was a sophomore in high school. Prior to 1975 Barry didn't use his falsetto. That wasn't used until Nights on Broadway song. They changed their style with the times.

You are doing great! The brothers are younger here and it IS a different vibe. This is early Bee Gees -- in the 1960s they did mostly rock ballads. Then in the 70s they did mostly disco. They were great in both genres! Try "Words," released in 1968.

Great reaction, Barry ( the tallest and the oldest) was lead on this song. He wrote this in an evening. He originally wrote it for Otis Redding, but he died in a plane crash before he could record it. The one on 5he piano doing the interjections at the end is Maurice ( pronounced Morris, his brothers call him Mo), the other one is Robin. Their last name is Gibb. They were all born in Douglas on the Isle of Man, when they were young their parents moved back to Manchester England. In 1958 the family emigrated to Australia shortly after youngest brother Andy ( who had a solo career and was supposed to goin the group later on I. The same year he died. Barry, the oldest is the only one still alive. He lives in Miami now with his wife Linda, he married in 1970. He has 5 grown children, 4 boys and one girl and last I heard 8 grandchildren. He has an older sister Leslie that still lives in Australia and has I think 9 children and breeds dogs. Barry was 20/21 in this video. The twins ( fraternal, not identical) were 17 then. Barry holds both US and UK citizenship.

There are a few videos of them when they are just little kids. You know they are brothers, right? I actually prefer the 60s stuff. Robin leads in “I start a joke.” It’s great. “Massachusetts” is fabulous. The reason they lasted is they were able to adapt to new popular genres of music. This song features Barry’s real register. He hit the falsetto later, and people loved it, so he kept doing it. They are: Barry Gibb, the eldest, and the younger twins, Maurice and Robin Gibb. The baby, who also became a singer, was Andy Gibb. They are all dead now, except Barry. He gets a little weepy when he talks about them all. I got to see them live in 1976 when I was 16. They were a gift to this world.

The Mills Brothers are the Bee Gees inspiration. They listened to them as they were growing up, when their father was in a big band. They met them eventually. BTW this song was written for Otis Redding, who died before he could record it. It would have been phenomenal, but better than this? Dont know. Maybe just different. Like Nina Simones version. And yeah, that Mo ad lib is awesome. Love it

The one on camera appearing to singing that fire part is Maurice (pronounced Morris) but I suspect it was really Robin (the one standing behind the lead) Barry. I could be wrong. Maurice does have a nice voice and he can go very high but it was out of character and I don't remember him ever sounding like that. Robin though, that man had some pipes.
