Thanks, I found this video quite helpful as I'm thinking about building one of these wooden boats myself. It will be an interesting change to the usual plastic planes and tanks that I build and paint. I am a bit worried about which kit to get so this narrowed down my search a little.

You videos are very educational, just bought the Essex. Question? when at the rigging stage, how do you know what length to cut the threads to start the rigging. Looking at the instructions, it shows mm but not sure if I should cut longer for tying & cutting. Any info appreciated.

Thank you, appreciate it! You can cut the ropes ones you finished it, no need to take measurements. I am sure you will find some useful information in the playlist below Basics of rigging model ships: tutorials and techniques kzitem.info/door/PLjLFeG6md-d2H60iOp3HwXxUsrA0gD0wg

@@Tagliamare Not sure what you mean cut the ropes when you finished it, I want to be able to cut the length then have enough to rig it it with a little extra for tying then trimming. Thanks

I mean Why do you have to cut the length before making the rigging? You can just use the full spole

It is harder to build a small simpler ship with poor instructions than a bigger more complex one with superb instructions. It only takes more time with the bigger one. Building a privateer schooner now and the drawings and instructions suck, also lack of online info on this model makes it a challenge. I believe that the Albatros also is good for beginners.

I’m building the Essex as a beginner. I’m in the process of outer planking the hull. It’s going together really well. Instructions are easy to follow, and the videos really help. But it really pays off to own a rotary tool. (I have 2 Proxxons. One with a flexi-shaft and one without). If you don’t have a rotary tool, you will be sanding the bow and stern forever.

One thing to add. I believe S scale trains are 1:64th scale and the Essex is 1:60th scale. I am planning on using printed brick for covering the works “Stove”. I live about 30 minutes from the Charles W. Morgan, and I believe the stove is brick. I could be wrong.

Thanks for the video. I have built three Occre ship models so far and I'm currently building La Candelaria. They are a good company and the after sales service is excellent.
