No, the Flaxmere New World is closed down forever 😭😭 its taking a heavy toll on the locals, since the farthest shops are Hastings. Having that shop taken awau is taxing on the elderly

My old home town. We used to go round the back at Tommy’s takeaways after school and buy bags of crispies - the little crisp bits that you get in the scoop of chips. 20c I think - this was the 80s.

My home town..but I live in Sydney Australia now..I went home one day, hired a car and drove from Auckland..filled up with gas in Napier and they guy asked where I came from..told him from Sydney and I’m going to flaxmere..he said to me, oh no you don’t wanna go there and I then said to him, “I’m from there” 🤣🤣 nothing wrong with Flaxmere..my parents and sisters are still there and the rest of my family..

If that's the New World I'm thinking of, it's not being built, rather the opposite, and the community isn't happy about it

I'm from Havelock North, the rich end of that Hastings chain of towns and suburbs and am really surprised at how nice Flaxmere is these days. I mean, compare your walk to those by 'Turdtowns' in the UK for a start! It's a shame that NW closed there but TBH, it's an expensive supermarket so most people would have just driven in to P&S in Hastings. I reckon a big cheap locally sourced fruit & veg shop would be a great replacement.

You'll find some really nice streets in Flaxmere, it's history is quite interesting, it was meant to be a wealthy planned community, it ended up being the opposite, it was always a tempting place to move to just to get a nice house at half the price of Hastings or Napier! That's probably not even the case anymore, was getting pricey only a couple of years ago.
