@@larrychicco1062 when firing quickly, yes. But M2s fired in single with a properly sighted scope can be just as accurate as most snipers out there but has a much farther effective damage range. There's a reason they came issued with telescopic scopes and why they used them over standard M16s or bolt action rifles
@larrychicco1062
2 жыл бұрын
@@baggedblueberry4941 Moa is the best grouping you can get with a rifle. You don't calculate moa by unloading a belt of ammo at a target. The m2 has a rated moa of 2.5 at 1000 yards. So at 1500 yards in the story that's,(1500/100=15 * 2.5 =37.5). So a grouping of 5 accurate shots will land in a random circle about 3ft wide at 1500 yards in ideal conditions. Nothing to do with the ability of the shooter, it's a limitation of the gear. That moa is fantastic if you're firing a heavy bullet into something like a chopper or car, because you'll still hit it and that's why the m2 is such a legend of a weapon. However a sniper rifle it is not, as they have sub 1 moas, maybe even a 1/2 moa. What's more likely is our friend in the story fired off 5 or 6 rounds and one of them obliterated the poor kid, still a remarkable shot that does reflect the talent of the user.

On top of that seeing a marine sniper using a scoped M2 browning was a pretty unusual sight. When he was observing the shot he believed that Carol's unintentionally missed. Again, he had no idea who this sniper was but he thought it was laughable for a marine scout sniper to miss (Their motto is "One shot, one kill"). An m2 is actually a very precise gun. U do understand that u can just take one shot at a time with an LMG to control recoil right? U aren't legally required to hold down the trigger. An LMG and a sniper are the same thing if u just treat them like they are while using them.

Carlos Hathcock was also a competition shooter as well. He won 1 or 2 competition matches if I recall before heading out to Vietnam. He was a very competent marksman, one of his practice methods for competition was to dry fire his rifle in the living room of his house and he'd do it for hours practicing the fundamentals. Evidently it annoyed his wife a little bit to lol.

My buddies were approximately 120 feet away from him, patrolling the area. That’s when the boy spotted them, yelled, and that’s when they all jumped out.
