When I heard Alex Lifeson switched to Hughes and Kettner amps years ago, I wanted one. I recently got a Grandmeister 40 and it’s quite possibly the most versatile amp I’ve ever had. It’s like a Vox and a Soldano mixed into one, with a Boss Katana multi-effects added in, with a Two Notes Cab M thrown in as well. It literally has everything you could ever need in one amp. Insane.

Please elaborate. I've been interested in a comparison between these two for awhile.
@@dylangadwa3119 i think you will find some nice comparison videos here, agufish has one and sonic drive also i think. the grandmeister sounds a bit "clinical" compared to the tubemeister but also more extreme for metal, it has shiddload of effects and fully midi controllable. the tubemeister sounds more natural, less processed, much better cleans, its based on the triamp MK III..so all in one - grandmeister..best tube sound you will ever hear IMO, tubemeister..i just had to keep both, they are really such great but you really need the foodswitch FSM 432 MK IV at least for the grandmeister that can also be used with the tubemeister, hope that help..by the way agufishs favourite amps are the triamp MK III and the tubemeister 🎸

Great video and stellar riffs again, Jon, as always! The Tubemeister & Grandmeisters are excellent indeed and extremely flexible for lots of use cases, actually. I used quite some H & K stuff over the years and still own the small discontinued Tubemeister 5 (which was awesome) and in rehearsal rooms I sometimes used a "Matrix 100" head around 2006-ish, which was surprisingly good.

I have this amp and I love it. I only got it because I had a PRS MT-15 (which I still think that it's one of the best ones out there), and for some reason, it was very noisy when I tried to use effects on Send Return for recordings etc. I got it replaced 3 times and all were noisy. I sent it back and decided to invest a bit more to get the Tubemeister 40 and wow, super clean, easy to control and more versatile.

Agreed that H&K is underrated. I recorded covers of "Never Meant" "In Bloom" "PDA" and "The Ocean" with a Tubemeister 18 into a Captor and it nailed the tones every time. Just a matter of getting the right pickup/effects/impulses for the job and that amp is a chameleon.

Hi, i have a tubemeister dlx40, I played a concert last weekend and I had the engineer to sound me only in front of redboxAE. Of course, we talked after, and he said that he had received a perfect band signal on the consoles, and he didn't have to do anything other than a gentle lo-pass filter. At the same time, the amplifier played itself through the column on the stage as a complement to the sound of the stage. I have the same signal from RedboxAE sent through the splitter to the in-ear monitor. Always the same, independent of the sound engineer, microphones, speakers. In addition, I play it at home, of course without a loudspeaker :) It's a pity that there is no redbox fragment in the recording, just for comparison. Brilliant amplifier

Excellent work on this video. I'm drawn to the super low chunky 7 string baritone stuff and it really holds up and comes through with clarity on the H&K Grandmeister 40. Your 8 string ibanez also sounded great. I'm still trying to figure out how to play 6 string guitars here myself..

This was super helpful I would like to see the Redbox settings though. What I also though about too is that the base sounds are good and if you want a different tone you can run a boost or put an overdrive in front push the tone.

I played a H&K Statesman head for a while. A very ok amp, gain aplenty but on stage lacking real punch. Good on low volumes though. I also tested the GM40. The voicing of those amps and the fizzy tones on high gain might not be everybody's cup of tea, but a lot of tones in there. Yet, it is no match for my Orange Rockerverb and Diezel Schmidt to put things in perspective, but if you can pick up a good used GM/Deluxe 40 you'll have a decent tubeamp.

@@randolphcarlisle2976 it handled boost extremely well, in my case. With that said, there’s a ton of gain on tap. I’d use the 3rd channel as my rhythm and the 2nd as my lead w/ a boost if I needed a bit more for a solo. Use my guitar volume pot to roll back the gain for an OD blues tone on 2. Channel 1 can get those sparkling cleans, not quite fender, but close enough for a mix. It’s extremely versatile.
