@@shauny2285 Aircraft are created by development software companies in case of high-fidelity modules. Some are created as free mods by the community but those are usually a lot simpler. In the former case, it usually takes years and more than a million dollars to develop a module. So, it is the money but it's only a part of it. You need access to data, licensing etc. To sum up, I'm just using the DCS World simulation as the platform to crate videos.

Remember reading that the most experienced Soviet pilots and instructors had gone home at this point in the war, so the Sabre pilots had a lot easier time, facing off against less experienced North Korean and Chinese pilots.
@showtime112

True. The most difficult time for the American pilots was early in the war when Soviets sent their most experienced units there. Then they replaced them with less experienced ones and eventually, with even less experienced North Korean and Chinese pilots.

While the idea of needing a "MiG kill before the war ends" in order to get promoted is not at all limited to a few ambitious pilots, it definitely sours me when it is more properly rephrased as "I need to kill a pilot in a war that is basically over just to get promoted". I find highly ambitious people in general to be rather distasteful and I try to avoid them whenever possible. Well told story however. Even if I don't love the facts the story teller should be commended.

It seems to take an awful lot of hits to damage a Mig enough to kill it. Was the Mig 5 a tank or were the Sabre’s gun just not very effective?
@showtime112
3 жыл бұрын
True, you need to place quite a few hit on it to die. I guess it was a combination of both. Machine guns were lacking in punch and new jet fighters were relatively strong (because they were built for higher speeds and g forces). The best thing seems to be to get so close that you start to sweat from the MiGs exhaust and only then start firing 😁

Ne mogu se sjetiti iz glave. Mogu probati uDCS-u.

Then I guess all the fighter aces in history are cowards because they scored majority of their kills by surprising their (usually inexperienced) victims, or attacking from a position of advantage. Can you imagine a unit CO saying 'Fellas, above all try to be chivalrous. Never attack an opponent unless you have first given them a fair chance to kill you'? 😁 The job of a fighter pilot is to shoot down enemy aircraft and not get shot down in the process. Plus, flying over an enemy airfield is anything but cowardly. Glenn was lucky that the defenses were not ready, otherwise it could have been a most unfortunate experience for him.

Today, Russian and American historians such as Cookie Sewall and Diego Zampinni admit that on 10/01/1955, not 10/08, there was the first kill of a jet by another jet. An F-80 Shooting Star patrol engaged three MiG-15s and veteran First Lieutenant Semyon Fyodorovich Khominich spotted 10 F-80F aircraft. Khomonich turned left, leaving the sun behind in combat formation. As a result of their attack, an F-80 was shot down. He opened fire at 800 meters, and stopped firing at less than 200 meters. Coming out of his attack, the lieutenant struggled to gain altitude. Major Bordun with the rest of the team attacked four F-80s that were trying to attack Khominich. The Americans went to the others without success, and finally abandoned the fight..." "...The Russian-built fighter was flown by five Air Force pilots. The F-86A-5 Saber underperformed when compared to the MIG-15. However, the superior training and tactics of the US pilots established a "kill ratio" better than 8:1 over MIG.
