The main thing I see is creating and sticking to a budget. We use YNAB for budgeting, and it’s life changing! I’m not sure I’d budget the foster care payment into the regular budget, but put the total amount of the foster payment to the foster child for supplies, clothes, etc.

@@teresawilson1850 at the beginning of the month the foster care payment is deposited into our checking. Be very careful setting up accounts for a Foster child. If that child goes home, and even before, if the account is in the childs name, and their bio parents still have rights, the bio parents will have full access to a standard savings or checking account. While it is great to hope that the bio parents will turn it all around 100%, but the reality is that it is rare, even if they fix what causes the removal, that they will be good with the money. It can be done in a way to protect it, but you will want to work with a professional to set it up properly.

He should probably do the $6500 roth IRA before the 401k though. Same with the wife - get the 401k match and rest to roth IRA until it’s maxed. He’s going to have so much room in his budget once they’re tracking their spending and being a little more intentional that they’ll have hundreds, maybe even four figures, every month that’s just unaccounted for that they can stockpile for any major project they want, he that a car, a home project, repairs, medical needs, etc. They can simply decide “we want a new car” and have many thousands after a year’s time or decide they need a couple thousand for a hike repair or furniture and buy it six weeks later.

If you have a spending problem and you find it hard to invest your own money, maxing out your 401k is good advice. It is harder to withdraw. But the returns on a 401k are terrible. There are also hidden fees that are sometimes a % of invested for just being stock in a 401k. In retirement you don't want to pay that every year. Still match whatever the company gives because that is an automatic 100% gain on your investment but if you're good with money just buy your own stock or find some index funds yourself.

Is this guy on the follow up calendar? I really want to see if he pulled it off. I am really excited for him. It seems so easy, but I know its so hard getting rid of debt.

I really, really wish the guests would take some notes during the discussion. There is normally a lot of information and it would help keep it all straight.

Caleb one suggestion I'd put forth is using airpods or some other small earbuds to hear their side, then mix your mic audio directly with their call audio. Switching between the audios sometimes isn't done perfectly like at 3:07 and so you're hearing what your mic pick up from your speaker which is very jarring. Graham Stephan does a setup like that for his guests.

If you want to make that income and have a reasonable record and a good attitude and work ethic you can defiantly make that sort of income . Within a year of starting my company is paying 10000 dollar sign on bonuses and 92000 a year to start to drivers with 90 days experience .

It doesn’t even sound like they’re buying expensive things. Where does it all go? My husband and I spend maybe $600 a month eating out …we eat out twice a week
