And it's also a matter of how much food that a country has, not how much food someone eats. Like the palestines are a perfect example right now. Isreal is taking away their food, and Palestinians are going hungry. What america eats and the food we use doesnt concern other countries or regions. We are a self sufficent country. We pay for our meals. You need money to survive. What someone does with that meal isnt anyone elses buisness because our peoples affairs do not effect you. Like, i dont know how to word this the way im trying to interpret it, so im not bothered if someones upset that they misinterprets this or takes it the wrong way.

Well, in my opinion, the usage of food as a medium for artistic expression is not a waste at all. In fact, I believe it is a testament to the creativity and ingenuity of the human mind, even in the face of scarcity. Take, for instance, the tradition of hyper-realistic cake decorating. These cakes require an immense amount of skill and dedication to create, and often consist of multiple layers of cake, frosting, and decorations, all made to mimic realistic features such as wood grains, flowers, and even people. While some may argue that such creations are a waste of food, I would counter that the value of these cakes does not lie solely in their nutrition. Rather, it is the time, effort, and artistry that goes into creating them that truly makes them valuable. After all, the fact that people are willing to pay a premium for these cakes is a testament to the fact that the value of a creation is not always based solely on its function, but also on the meaning and emotion that it evokes. And who are we to judge how people spend their money or what they choose to create with it? As long as it brings them joy and doesn't harm others, I say let them have at it. If they want to use food as their medium of choice, well, that's their prerogative, and I say more power to them. After all, the freedom to create and express ourselves is what makes humanity so wonderful in the first place, no matter the medium or the form.

I beleive art, unfortunately, just is inherently wasteful. Most art supplies are plastic, theres a lot of waste from packaging or cleaning up, and many art materials are bad for the water supply. But i think its worth it. Artists tend to be very mindful of their waste and we're not making waste for no reason, which is the real problem with being wasteful imo. @melissakroeker1750

Here is the thing, people not having enough to eat is actually not due to there not being enough food. It is a distribution issue not a quantity issue. We grow enough food for everyone in the world to eat. Getting it distributed is the problem. So using one small pizza is not going to make a difference for a single person unless you would have gone out and given that pizza to a hungry person otherwise.

People like that drive me nuts. The economic and political systems controlling the way the supply chain creates huge surplus in some areas but famine in others has nothing at all to do with an individual wasting a bit of food. That surplus would be in that area whether they buy the extra food or not, so much so that produce is left to rot in fields when it cant sell, sometimes just because there is no way to transport it even if they had somewhere to put it. Even more important is that blaming individuals distracts us from putting pressure on the actual culprits that cause food scarcity.

I need people to start looking at corporate restaurants for those kinds of complaints. As a former restaurant employee for McDonald's, Starbucks, and even a boba tea place(not quite corporate but there was still a food waste problem). Starbucks puts new food on display every day just to not sell it(it's not for sale) and then throws it away at night. If a food item is dated as the day you're working, it is immediately thrown out. no one is allowed to take it home. Drink items are spilled and thrown out several times a day if not prepared properly. The waste that goes on in Starbucks alone would make a starving child cry. McDonald's expects employees to over prepare for customers and make the food before it's ordered (unless it's a qpc) and if it's not sold at the end of the night, it gets thrown out. Nuggets, burger patties, fillets, chicken patties, fries, whatever else you can think of. No one can take it home(ofc we did anyway.) The boba place was no better. If the boba wasn't made correctly, all of the ingredients that went into that boba were thrown out. I'm talking a big ass pot of boba that took half an hour to prepare. All of the boba would be thrown out by the end of the night(including all other additives and 1 hour expired pastries) Boba could be taken home, but there weren't many takers. Several buckets of tea was poured down the drain every morning. So those 3 places wasting food at hundreds of other locations are much worse than this person making a soap mold with 1 singular pizza. Grow up.

Here's an important point in this argument: There is enough food for everyone. There is 100% already enough food already being produced to feed every living person on Earth. In a global sense, food is not scarce. Keeping food from poor people is an intended feature of the system of capitalism. It is a choice by governments, corporations, and the people rich enough to fix world hunger overnight. The burden of world does not fall on the individual, or the small business. There are people who choose to maintain it.

People seem to not realize that it only took ONE pizza to make a mold that can be used and reused nearly endless times. You can even use that mold to make more molds by creating a plaster casting to then remold. Those molds can then be sold or used for making larger batches. They act like as if you use another pizza every time you make another soap pizza. They should be complaining about real food waste from places like fastfood chains, restaurants, and businesses that throw away perfectly edible food just because they couldnt sell them. If a grocery store looses power for more than a few hours they throw away all the frozen isle foods because its part of the policy. Most vegtables and fresh produce also end up in the garbage after a certain amount of time.

people would rather go after individuals rather than the big wasteful companies that force all food to be disposed of rather than donated

If people are this triggered about one pizza....they need to take a look at how huge companies throw out a bunch of food every day. There's a lot of food waste in fast food and restaurants. It's just a part of society. There's no reason for them to be attacking you over one pizza.....don't listen to those people. They're just trying to tear you down.

Food gets wasted every day. Its an issue, yes, its always good to try not to waste food. But food that goes bad before you can use it, or you forgot about by accident, or just food you toss because you're done with it even though its not gone--these happen every day. You dont have to clear your plate or be zero waste. Its impossible. Throwing out perfectly good food that you didnt have a purpose for should definitely be avoided. But she did have use for the pizza. She used it to make soap.

People will always blame the consumer without realising just how much food waste corporations produce on a daily basis.

If anything she is using that food for something good. A lot of the time grocery stores just throw away their food that is about to expire or isn't selling even if it doesn't expire for another year.

People don’t realise that most food moulds are created with real life food. It is needed for art. Plus the scraps go to get composted after which is a good thing as it creates compost

I agree with their reasons for saying what they did and why. But the texture of the pizza or uncrustable or even as a kiwi is gonna be near or completely impossible unless you use the product. And you said it all in the video! Its authentic!

Something that people often don't think about is that if you didn't buy that pizza, the store probably would have honestly just thrown it out so at least you're using it

Also, while it can’t be eaten, you still used it. It’s like complaining about people making gingerbread houses since they typically aren’t eaten. Food insecurity also typically isn’t caused by food shortages in developed nations. It’s caused by income inequality. There is plenty of food, some people just can’t afford it (and access can also be an issue for those living in food deserts or extremely rural areas). Additionally, while it’s of course important to think about your individual contributions to food waste, commercial/industrial food waste (food disposed of by producers, manufacturers, and retailers) is a disproportionately large contributor to food waste overall. It’s something that needs to be handled on a systemic level to see the most impact.

Food is biodegradable. Any waste of regular food is ultimately meaningless. What they should be concerned with is how much plastic society goes through.

If it's your money, you may use it how you wish. People like to run their mouths more than they like to help society. It's way so much easier to shout at a total stranger about being 'wasteful' than it is to actually put the phone down and be anything more than a waste of space and energy....

If you want to be upset about food waste, complain to large corporations who toss out thousands of dollars of good food every day because they couldn't get it to sell for what they wanted (you read that right, what they wanted, not what it's worth, but what the company decided its profit should be)

Girl you're doing good! The people calling it a waste of food are also the people who over eat and contribute to the Mukbang culture which is also a waste of food. You're eating more than you must. Why isn't anyone talking about that. Growth is everywhere and perspective needs to change.

I work at a store that sells food. They throw away so much food and they wont let us take it home. They do donate some of it but for the majority, they throw it all away. Ive asked if i could take it home, they told me no. Because i worked somewhere before this and they would throw away expired stuff but would let the employees take it home. Let me tell you how p!ssed i was when i caught one employee walking with a trash can throwing stuff away, after I told her not to because i would take it home because at that time i had 4 extra people living at my home. Totally insane behavior! I watched them throw away over 30 boxes of food at my work the other day and they would not let me take one home!! Before someone says, "why not just take it withiut them knowing!" They have cameras all over the store and the manager watched the camera everyday.

This is really super cute and anyone who is offended over food waste should go work at a nursing home. ESPECIALLY in a dementia unit because you cannot make them eat if they refuse. Soooooo much food gets wasted at 3 meals a day. Its astronomical how much food is thrown away!!!

We keep saying there are people starving in the world, but if you're so worried about that, donate your 3- 4 big Mac meals to a homeless person. Give then $10-$20 for a meal. It does grind my gears just a little bit because the people complaining the most are usually the ones who share the least.

You should've packaged that small pizza and shipped it off to a different continent for one person. Because that's more logical. Because YOUR food usage directly affects people without food. Come on people, have a little bit of common sense.

If they want to go on about the waste of food they should check the prices of the produce aisle and then check the dumpsters behind the stores. Stores waste more food in a single day more than one family will in a single year.
