It's surreal, absurd, silly and still brilliant. You don't get it at first but see a few more episodes. You'll see more of the same throughout. I've seen these many times since the 70s and still enjoy watching them today.

Python is some of the best surrealist comedy ever done. Terry Gilliam (the animator) of course went on to direct several movies including Time Bandits, The Fisher King, Twelve Monkeys, and my personal favourite, Brazil.

When I was in high school in the 1970s, one of my friends brought me to an apartment where someone he knew lived and we watched Monty Python's Flying Circus for the very first time. It was broadcasting on a public television station fairly late at night. We had never seen anything like it, the closest thing to it's absurdity was Laugh In. Needless to say, it became a weekly destination. Edit: The animation is done by Terry Gilliam, the lone American in the Python Troupe. He is known for many great films, such as Brazil, 12 Monkeys, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, and my favorite Gilliam film, Time Bandits. You should check that one out, as well as a film co-written by Monty Python's Graham Chapman, Yellowbeard.

In classic British history, Lord Nelson died of his wounds at the naval Battle of Trafalgar, and his last words were “Kiss me, Hardy”, telling his loyal first mate to take the message back to his lady. He just didn’t say them being pitched bodily out of a six-story window. 🤣

Now you're finally going to see Monty Python at their best. Monty Python came on at 10:30pm Sunday Night, on our Public Television Channel, Channel 11, in Chicago. I went to bed on school nights at around 10-10:30, but on Sunday night, I got to stay up late, so I could watch Monty Python with my parents. Losing sleep on Sunday nights was totally worth it 😏

It's a surreal stream of consciousness, usually with no actual point being made. It is made to be absurd. You either get it, or you don't. Some people can't handle it at all, which is hilarious itself :) There are elements of Dada, Surrealism and Absurdism in them. Nowadays, you might even say ADHD.

The opening credits are different for each season, so you should watch each version at least once. They're not very long, and rather amusing. The voiceover saying the name of the show is different each season too. Cleese's voiceover for the 2nd season credits is so ridiculously silly, it cracks me up every time! I also think that the 2nd season is the best overall. Though there are plenty of gems in seasons 1 and 3 too, some of which you've already reacted to.

Oh man, I'm so psyched!!! I can't believe you're doing this!!! There are certain episodes I'm already excited for you to get to. Season 2 is particularly great, virtually every episode! Season 1 has its ups and downs, my faves of this season are episode 8 and the last two, but there are lots of good ones, and the whole series has great stuff in it. Does every sketch or joke land? No! Don't exhaust yourself! Just wait for them to pounce! And happy you let it run to the very end; there are often things after the credits. They may put the credits in the middle of the episode. It ain't over 'till it's over! I agree: The Funniest Joke In The World is the best sketch in this one.

I could often not see much of the Monty Python sketches because the inset is so small. Is it an option to perhaps swap the video streams so the Monty Python plays in full window and you are in the smaller picture-in-picture stream? Or will that get you into more trouble with the copyright cops?
