Can we take a moment to appreciate their sister bond? I mean, even some sisters by blood don't have this type of companionship and trust. They share everything! Tessa knew Deja was going to see Malik instead of visiting a female friend, and Anne is the only one who knows Deja is pregnant in the future. It is so sweet and inspiring to see that aside from being sisters, they are best friends who have each others back ❤️

I love it. I just watched the episode when Malik first told Deja he has a daughter. The first person Deja told was Tess. They have a little heart to heart about Deja being stepmom and Tess wishing she could just be out in her new school without having to actually come out. And them talking about how Randall and Beth are just always there. I can go on and on about this but you just asked for a moment and I’ll be here all day if I don’t stop now. But yes. Their sister bond is so wholesome and cute and I love it.

I felt like smacking her myself. Her and Malik are both disrespectful ‘babies’. Yes they are school bright but they are not grown. She likes to throw in the fact that she experienced a rough life with her biological mom and she uses that as a crutch to get her parents to back off her. That’s what a manipulator does to get their way. LET HER GO, she’ll realize just how much harder life will get. Beth and Randall have given her a fantastic life but to me it seemed they were always bending over backwards to please her and she always seemed so unappreciative.

Well if we are going to talk about disrespect. Out of all of Beth and Randall kids, I feel like Tess is more disrespectful than Deja. Now i'm not excusing Deja's behavior, it was too soon and demanding. She could've handled the situation better, or even waited until she graduated. She even said that she was taking 3 AP classes and that she could graduate early, right? Maybe i'm not understanding something here. But I would say, that when she turns 18 she can go ahead and move out. She is about to turn into adult and she has plans for her future. But Tess gets on my nerves, some of the things she does are unpurpose.
If Deja wants to graduate early, it should be for career decisions. Not over a guy. People will always be temporary with no guarantees of it lasting.

Looking back on decisions I thought I wanted to make at that age, I disagree with Deja and Malik here. Things change. People change. And not just in bad ways! She is far too young to make that call. If anything I think she should have discussed her decision with Randall and Beth, who could’ve guided her. They seem very reasonable (a lot more reasonable than my parents would’ve been LOL). I see them being the type of parents who would agree with maybe spending summer and school vacations together, but, not completely moving. And Malik getting as upset as he did, I think it shows he knows Randall is right. Randall shouldn’t have put it that way but I think he appealed to Malik in a way. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out. I see Beth and the whole Romeo and Juliet thing, but, ultimately if she fails, even with being unable to pay bills or tuition, it will fall on Randall and Beth. She’s going to need them. It’s in her best interest to work out a compromise. She is bright, I know she can come up with one.
@jenisejackson5408

@Autumn. Randall should not have apologized in the episode Deja got caught lying! That was the first mistake. I agree with everything you stated. Deja is telling her parents what she is going to do... Nope. Deja thinks she is grown, first relationship she is in and she wants to move in, "play house" with a guy and his child by someone else. Deja would just have to not like me then, because me and my husband answer would be no! When she is 18 she can do what she wants, but she is not 18. If their "love" is so strong it can survive 1 year apart.

Remember she is an adult. I didn't ask for my parents permission to quit college and join the marines when I was 19. I didn't have to. I was an adult, moms sometimes forget that children grow into adults and when that happens you need to take a step back and understand that your new role in their life is to advise them, guide them, and be someone they can have as a sounding board. I have had that kind of relationship with my father for most of my life and it's been pretty good. My mother on the other hand not so much. She sometimes forgets I'm 35, my wife and I have been merried for 7 years, and have two sons.

I was SO glad the writers did not make it happen in the end. It's a terrible life decision at this point for Deja. Only because she's mature, doesn't mean she's old enough to fully understand the consequences; she should consider her own life goals apart from Malik and their relationship. Yes, long-distance sucks, at every age, but couples get through it with patience. Randall and Beth were right, and I was happy to see it portaied that way in the show, too.
@Efo-yy3hh

As a parent, I definitely would not appreciate this but seeing the circumstances I can understand it. Deja is obviously more mature than her age due to her background of being in foster care etc. and has been used to fending for herself from a very young age, and all of a sudden the situation is reversed and she’s being treated as a child and grounded even though she’s 17 (I wouldn’t ‘ground’ my 17-year-old and forbid her from seeing her boyfriend, she’s obviously capable of understanding others’ perspective and have a reasonable conversation with them). Her parents should have seen that coming, they failed to take her background into account in their parenting. I think they could have handled the situation differently and in a way that Deja could have expressed herself more openly.

@Minette. I am talking as a mom. Deja is still in high school, whether she is a Junior or Senior makes no difference. She has no money! Deja cannot support herself. Malik is in Harvard, she thinks she is going to have so much time with him. Malik will be busy in class and studying. When he is not doing those things he probably has a part-time job, being that he has a child to take care of. When he is not doing all of those things above, he is spending time with his child. There does not seem to be much "alone" time for Deja and Malik. Since, Malik cannot support Deja, she will have to get a job. If she decides to go to a local college there she will also be busy as well. This is not going to work out. I don't believe Malik and Deja end up together long term. We will see though.
