What I enjoy about making videos is the opportunity to be unique and offer the viewers an opportunity to be entertained! Thankfully, most people watching aren’t sub 6 cubers and I feel like an entertaining overview is good for most. When it really boils down to it, most cubes manufactured today are great as is. For people like me that cube for fun, I enjoy something that makes me happy and I translate that in my review. If I wouldn’t cube with it myself, I’d say so. I don’t take this video as a Cube Solve Hero bash at all, it sounds like an opinion based off things Phil likes to see. Fortunately for my followers and the content I make, Phil’s opinions don’t represent them! I want to encourage anyone out there reading this to continue making the content you want to make! Everyone’s a critic and that’s just part of the KZitem game. Since I’ve done this, I’ve become immune to the hate I get since I’ve seen a lot of it over the years. I’m just gonna sit back and enjoy the ride 😎

yes, i agree, my opinion does not represent the opinions of the people who follow your channel. i'm just one person and i consider myself a lot more cynical than most. we would all be in trouble if all your followers behaved like me :S this is more of an opinion of what i think consumers making purchasing decisions want to see (or should see). but, to be fair, not everybody is looking to make a serious purchasing decision all the time. and, not all purchasing decisions of plastic toys are super "serious". at the end of the day, it's our hobby. if you are comfortable doing what you are doing and you feel like you relate to your audience well, then keep doing what works for you. your growth doesn't lie -- over 50,000 people enjoy watching you enjoy stuff. also, i don't think most cubes manufactured today are great as is, but that's probably a point we just disagree on. i think there are some pretty bad recent products and decisions out there. we don't see that very often because reviewers like you and me like to pick cool products to showcase because it's more fun. it kind of sucks to make a video only to be negative. i think that's perhaps why we notice on average, good-vibe reviews around youtube. at the end of the day, this is my opinion. this is why the title of the video is "this is why i". that was probably one of the dumbest sentences i've ever typed, but i love not capitalizing anything.

The Kylin V2 M is so underrated. Head to head as a speedcube, yes it's inferior to others. But in the context of an "on the go" cube where you don't have to worry about tossing it in a bag or who gets ahold of it, it's a great option.

I've felt this way about the vast majority of the reviews on KZitem for quite a while now. There's a very small subset of individuals who share credible reviews, and they usually aren't the ones with the more flashy editing or speed of upload. Very well said, Phil!

@@asmallkitten haha really? Thank you! Jules did give me some very useful insight as well, but I hope it was also an enjoyable video to watch overall. :) I needed this video to better understand the thought process behind what the viewers get out of the review, and what value it provides to them, but also to be careful of things that may hurt the content creator in the future. Thanks for this video!

Great content as always, Phil. Very informative and I'm sure there is something to take back for content creators of any experience level. I agree with you on the majority of the things you said, but a lot of viewers don't rely on seeing solving scenarios in order to assess whether a cube is good or not (albeit a very small number of people). Always nice to hear your opinion and stance on topics like these. Looking forward to future "podcast-style" videos.

My pet peeve is when someone reviews a cube minutes after opening it. This is called first impressions, not a review. For example, the RS3M2020 felt like a different cube after a week of using it. With all the frosted cubes coming out now it takes time for them to “break in”, changing their feel on your fingers, and possibly the way it turns, etc.
@ritchiefu7212

hey Phil, do you think that popular opinion of a product might discourage people from sharing their actual opinions, even if it's not completely invalid? I feel like the overall vibe of a review affects performance of a video, and sometimes people might want to be upbeat and positive in their videos to attract more views.
@asmallkitten
3 жыл бұрын
yeah, for sure. sometimes it's hard to publish an opinion if it's going to be very different from popular opinion. it's not easy to be "out of place" even if your opinion is valid.

useful, but it's tough to target that segment because it's tough to understand what media platforms (if any) parents use to gain information about cubes. if it's posted on youtube, the bulk of the audience may not be able to relate to it as well
