For anyone comparing House to Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was actually capable of doing the same sort of Sherlock Holmes reasoning in real life, which is why he was able to write the character so well. House feels like he was written by someone who was a fan of Sherlock Holmes but didn't understand the subject matter of either Holmes' methods or of the medical knowledge House would require. To the common man, both men appear smart, but only Holmes' intelligence is believable under scrutiny. It's why the classic Holmes is so popular to this day; unless you are one of those rare individuals capable of such reasoning, you cannot recreate such a character so fully and believably.

Following the rules would make for very boring television. The goal of TV is to be entertaining to the maximum amount of people, not represent professions accurately.

@@Toastybees while true, there still is the problem of people accepting these as near accurate representations of these professions. I get it's entertainment for the audience, however it still leaves people who don't recognize that aspect, nor have any knowledge of said occupation to believe that's true. And there are a lot more people than I thought who are easily influenced. But I'm more critical of films and tv shows based on historical events, especially of the WW2 era. But I don't like changes like Liberty's kids rendition of Washington crossing the Delaware and beating the Hessians, while portraying the Hessians as drunk off their ass, when they weren't. Making that battle more simplistic even beyond the constraints usually associated with a children's show, really diminishes the significance of that event. Shes the type of patient that people are more than happy to help because she doesnt fight you every step of the way, and can actually assist in their own treatment. While it is incredibly important to vouch for yourself and ask questions as a patient (medical staff can make mistakes, and there are indeed bad medical "professionals"), it is also important to not overly impede the people literally trying their best to keep you alive/make you feel better. Well when Mousey started talking about inhalers I randomly remembered my ex being prescribed an inhaler of some kind.
