"Thumbs on the bar" completely blew my mind. I don't think I ever realized guys use a different grip 😂😂
@musicaddict1046

Yup, high bar is thinner, but also more slippery, hence the thumb to make sure you don't slip off. 😅 Men and women also literally use different grips, the one's for uneven bars are thinner with only two finger holes whereas the men's grips have three.
@yuukinoyuki9064

@@musicaddict1046 Oh wow, the more you know. Is the guy's grips wider? That's why it has 3 finger holes?
@musicaddict1046
Ай бұрын
@@yuukinoyuki9064 Yup, I'm not sure which way around in terms of reasoning, like if the need for more width lead to another finger hole being added or the grips got wider to accomodate the need for another finger, but either way they are wider and have an additional hole compared to women's grips. Honestly, I'd be curious to know how different they actually feel, since I've only ever worn one type myself, but as far as I'm aware, they do pretty similar things at least.

@@pannajohns5255well I mean it’s just scientific fact that men are more athletically inclined than women on average and the strongest/fastest men will always be stronger/faster than the strongest/fastest women, that’s why they compete separately. It’s very clear when you look at sports where you can directly compare men’s and women’s performances such as in races and weightlifting. Sure some women are more athletic than some men but you’d be comparing female athletes to male non-athletes which is even more silly than comparing male and female athletes.

@valval4145

The men's bar is much thinner than the women's bar, so wrapping your thumb makes the grip better, and you don't have to worry about breaking your thumb. On parallel bars, which are much thicker, we swing with our thumbs not wrapped around the bars, since it would be very uncomfortable if they are wrapped around under the bar.

@@BRUV_you_arent_DEMUREEEEEWait, you didn't know? In my gym, when we learn a new move on bars we often train it on a metal bar first, before moving on to our wooden one's, since it's more slippery, hence easier to glide around. We also use some kind of rope loop (ig? I dunno what it's called in English. 😅) so we can't slip off, which also makes it easier and more secure than wooden bars. So since we're used to both types of bars and use both frequently, the different grips are also pretty intuitive to me now.

@@musicaddict1046 At my gym, we don’t use our metal bar for new skills. We use it as a strap bar (Strapped onto the bar with bands and other things so your hands can’t come off the bar).
