Nice tutorial. I'd add that if you raise the mids in the mask on the subject, and it washes out too much, simply decrease the shadows to balance it out.

Thank you! Very true. I have found that doing that with shape masks though makes the change too pronounced. I do sometimes do that when just normally color grading a whole shot though.

Great tutorials. Could you please give your opinion about Color finale vs Cineama grade for fcp x coz i am about to purchase either of these nad confused about which ine will be better.Nowadays many of the editors migrating in to Davinci Resolve also.

Thanks so much Abdul! I actually don't own Cinema Grade, but from what I've heard, Color Finale is a better option for those wanting to create more professional looking grades. I think Cinema grade shines when it comes to quick adjustments.

Another great tip! Massive time saver, man! I have question (or suggestion for future video, if you're interested): Could you show us how to pin or track that circle to the subject so that if you're using a slider, for example, you'd be able to make the correction circle stay on the subject as the subject moves in the frame? I hope I've explained this adequately. Thanks again, buddy.
@dylanjohndickerson

Hey Jay! You did explain it adequately. I definitely should’ve gone over how to use key frames to adjust the position of the shape mask. The issue is, if you move too much, sometimes the mask can become noticeable. I definitely have shown in some of my color grading tutorials how to do the effect and add keyframes though. I’m just not sure which ones 😅

@@dylanjohndickerson Can’t you also use auto tracker, at least if you’re using the built in fcp color tools? I’m pretty sure I did that once.
@dylanjohndickerson
2 жыл бұрын
@@kevinkrause5798 You can, but it's not perfect. Usually I don't move the shape mask if it's an interview. If the subject is moving, I use the tracker from Color Finale, which is better than FCP's native tracker.
