Exactly. People don’t need to reproduce if they can’t take it seriously. Creating and raising another human is no joke. It’s hard as hell and if people really don’t want children, they should take precautions and make sure not to get pregnant. There are too many children who don’t have parents that love them. Plenty of adults have grown up without real parents as well.

as someone who lives in chicago, whenever my city is brought up in a debate about gun control it makes me livid. you can drive to indiana and get guns with ease and drive them back to chicago. it’s that simple. when the argument against school shootings is “what about chicago” it breaks my heart. chicago’s gun violence stems from gang violence which is a direct result of financial inequality. the police purposefully avoid areas of gang violence and let people kill each other. chicago’s gang violence is a serious and heartbreaking issue. that tiktoker is a disgusting individual. i love my city. gun control in our surrounding states would make a huge impact.
@ellabiddy4741

Yeah my thoughts on that part were more that the cause and effect is the opposite of what the dude was trying to claim. There are harsher gun laws because of the elevated amount of violence, not the other way around. I live in GA and in ATL there are a lot of shootings but small scale like someone gets into an altercation and shoots that 1 person, not mass shootings, but it still makes Lenox Mall sort of infamous. The other day my dad asked if I was comfortable driving his car with his gun in it and I said “as long as I don’t get pulled over” to which he informed me I don’t need a single form of approval besides simply being over 18 to have a gun in GA. Brian Kemp recently eliminated the requirement for a permit to carry a handgun, so anyone who hasn’t been convicted of a felony YET can take a gun almost anywhere. It’s sort of normal now up in the mountains to see an old man with a gun attached to his waistband wherever, in a Walmart, outlet mall, restaurant, etc. Who knows if he’s crazy or not cause he sure as hell wouldn’t go to a doctor and find out in these parts.

That isn't a fair comparison - for a tattoo, you pay once and $1000 can get you a pretty big one. Tattoo - some of your skin has a different color now, which sure, makes some jobs off limits but that's it. A child - a new human being that you are now responsible for, you have to provide for their physical and emotional needs and play an important role in their development as a person (which scarest the shit out of me personally)

@@jifij89 yes, I absolutely love kids, I studied childhood development in college. It’s very valuable for everyone but especially people who work with children. Childcare is not for everyone because you have be incredibly patient and constantly remind yourself of their current developmental state and how much your interactions contribute directly to their brain development and future mental health problems or skills. Which is why pressuring people to have kids is so bad, most people don’t deserve kids who have them so I respect people who know that they don’t want them and stick to it so much. I know people who have had kids from social pressure and it’s really heartbreaking seeing how she treats her kids, she’s not directly abusive but every time I see her interact with him I KNOW exactly what kind of problems he’s going to have within his interpersonal relationships as an adult. I understand why being with/having kids is not something everyone can do but giving future adults the respect of human decency is all I ask of people. at some point I've realized that if I hate a child, I actually hate their parents. Children literally just try to exist in this random world and most adults treat them like they're supposed to know everything already. THEY DON'T KNOW SHIT, that's what parents are for, teaching them. And most parents absolutely suck and only traumatize their children. Idc if they're "doing their best". Some people shouldn't have children and it's clear the ones preaching for having babies are the ones who are selfish and never stopped to think about the consequences. To them, they're doing a good work because it was how their parents raised them. Yay generational trauma. That's why I won't have children but I will try to help as many as possible to stop that generational trauma. And that's way more than most of those baby-crazy people will ever do.

There's a difference between not wanting to be around kids or enjoy them and going out of your way to shit on and resent kids which is where the red flag comes in. I've met people who revel in being shitty to children and make it a personality. At the same time I understand wanting to push back against the assumption that everyone should want kids.

I work in a daycare and I love kids but Kurtis is actually spot on with a lot of this lol. Most parents I interact with are parents for the weirdest reasons. They talk about their kids like they're cute little things to collect and display for other people. They love them while they're babies and then just kind of check out and it's really sad to see. The older I get, the more I think the world just isn't conducive to me ever having my own. And that's coming from someone who grew up really wanting to be a mom.

We don’t need to bring a million new babies into the world when there are so many who are here without a family!!! Not just babies either, there are kids all ages who need homes and more people need to realize that adoption is a great and valid option!!

As a zoologist, every time someone says “Why are there still monkeys?” as an argument tells me a GREAT deal about how much they actually know about evolution. The primates we evolved from are no longer around, because those populations either evolved into something different or went extinct. The apes that are around besides humans today are not “what we came from,” they are more like distant relatives! We just have a common ancestor. The idea that monkeys sort of “leveled up” into a human is called orthogenic evolution, and it’s a misconception that results from a poor understanding or a poor education in the topic. Typically evolution has just been misrepresented to the individual in question so they didn’t have a fair shot at actually understanding how the process works. Evolution is not a perfectionist that’s always trying to make something more complex or smarter - it is a tinkerer, that adapts populations of organisms to their current environment. If you are looking for resources to understand evolution, check out Forrest Valkai, the Renegade Science Teacher! He’s a fantastic educator and he’s incredibly passionate, his enthusiasm is always contagious.

I think what people mean when they say it’s a red flag not to like kids is that obviously kids depend on adults so much for care and safety and so obviously if you don’t like someone it’s unlikely that you’ll treat them well and look out for their safety. I don’t think it’s so literal, but also so many people do treat kids so badly unfortunately

this guy interviews people trying to go about their day who are completely unprepared for a debate and expect them to know everything about the topic they're talking about. I can't remember a lot about the theory of evolution but still believe in it in the way that I cant remember a lot about things about physics but I still believe in it?? And I'm sure most people understand that when put on the spot, you'll forget things that you KNOW you know.

The evolution bit was so frustrating, we literally learned that in high school, in great detail. Recombination, mutation, natural selection, isolation etc. All these affect populations of animals. Also, what would've been the most concise answer to his monkey-argument is that we share a common ancestor from which humans and modern apes evolved. Fun fact: there are living creatures that share traits of older and younger related individuals. Like the Archae opterix sharing traits of modern reptiles and birds. Fossiles are evidence for evolution as well. And animals that share analog organs i.e. animals like dolphins and sharks having the same body shape and homologue organs i.e. the bone structure of human hands being close to identical to a whales fin. Note: Idk if these terms are correct in english, I'm german and learned this in german.
