Great Details Video, While doing the auto calibration the motor keeps running. It does not work with the wheel. When I want to stop the motor, I have to remove the cable directly from the p-tap battery, then only does it stop running. Why doesn't the wheel run with the motor? Thank you

Are you able to use two handles with the nucleus mounted on the Ronin S?
@RayValencia

Hey AJ. You won't be able to fit another NATO clamp handle on the ring above the Focus Wheel because the tightening screw would hit the Nucleus. Although, I know SmallRig makes a $20 handle that screws in instead that should work. I plan to order one of these soon. amzn.to/3aEH1nR

Is it feasible to flip the Smallrig mounting plate upside down so the QR will release the Nano downwards so it isn't blocked by the Smallrig collar?
@RayValencia
4 жыл бұрын
It is possible to flip the QR plate upside down, but your follow focus wheel will be upside down too. (So that means the screen and buttons would face down too). The Nano wheel has a raised anti-off notch on the back, so it slides into the quick release plates in one direction only. Both the Tilta and SmallRig QR plates have a recessed slot where the anti-off notch slides into.

@@RayValencia hey, good to know & your video is really helpful. I am trying to come up with a rig that is as ergonomic as possible. After looking at a lot of set ups, i am wondering why more people haven't tried using a Nucleus M left grip attached with a rosetta extension. The nucleus M grip can be purchased individually and it can control Nano motors wirelessly. In this way you can fully grip with both hands all the time and control focus with your index finger. I haven't tried it yet though. The other thing i found could be useful is a strap. Smallrig sells one which can mount to that collar.

I haven't tested out how much shorter the battery life is, but I've done numerous 8 hour weddings without ever turning off the Ronin and Nucleus and still had about half Ronin battery. Although, you will have to change out the included battery that comes with the handwheel about every 5 hours (but it comes with 2 special batteries just for it).

The included 12V cable for the Ronin-S is more than enough power for any regular lens. If you have big cinema lenses with a tighter focus ring (like the Zeiss CP.3 lenses I used in video Part 3 of this series) then you may need 16volts from a D-Tap cable. If that's your case, I got mine from Alvin's Cables on Amazon for like $15. Less than Half the price of the Tilta cable.

I've tried a few handles on the left side, but there is very limited space on the side with the wheel. Either I can't fit my fingers around the handle, or there isn't enough clearance for the focus wheel. Still looking for a proper solution.

(solved, read farther down this comment chain) Just got the RS2. Extremely annoyed about something this small like being abke to power accessories that are not DJI are not possible on RS2. Unless you use a weird c to mini adapter. The cable version of c to mini does not work.

I did not know that. I'd be annoyed too. I've been planning on getting an RS2 and just assumed they would have the same power options (or better). I also use a Ronin-S to USB-C cable to tigger recording on the Sony FX3. I just got the Tilta Mirage VND Matte Box with the Nucleus-N motor adjusting my ND, powered by the Ronin. I'll have a video on that soon.

@@RayValencia Here's whats dumb their supplied USB C to MICRO cable does not power the nano. Yet if I get a $1 adapter that is a c to micro adapter, and use a C to C cable, nanoflash turns on. I'll let you know if non-branded C to Micro cables work. But the research shows that only a C to C plus micro adapter seems to work.

@@RayValencia Hey good news, so it turns out that a generic adapter that is USB C male (plugs into RS2) and female microUSB, and you use the original Tilta supplied right angle microUSB to right angle microUSB the nano turns on, and saves space because they're right angles!

Because originally using a male USB C to male Micro USB made the plug into the Nucleus Nano stick out alot and garenteed easily damage the port.

Hello, Nice Set up, I would like to buy a Ronin SC for my Sony A7RIV. First is you set up working with the DJI SC?? Is active track working if use an Atomos ninja V?? I previous to use the sony Smallrig CCS2416 : www.smallrig.com/smallrig-cage-for-sony-a7r-iv-ccs2416.html You think it's possible to put the Atoms Ninja V on the Sony flash grip ?? Best regards ..

Hello! You don't need a power bank to power the Nucleus because it came with a cable for powering through the Ronin 12V port on the gimbal. Power banks are usually too weak for the Nucleus because they only provide 5V. I made a Part 3 of this video that explains the power options too. V-Mount, power bank, Gold Mount, Ronin, etc

How do you remove the original focus knob that came on the Ronin S? Also, I use Arca Swiss plates and the Ronin S is Manfrotto. I use a BPMCC 4K. Any ideas on a baseplate converter that'll support that load? Smallrig's version doesn't seem long enough.
@RayValencia
4 жыл бұрын
Hi! The original focus is removed with the 2 screws on the knob and you just slide it off (towards the trigger button). I haven't balanced a BMPCC on the Ronin-S, but I know SmallRig makes the 'Offset Plate Kit' specifically for the BMPCC. The Smallrig Part number is BSS2403 on Amazon. You could attach that offset plate to your arca Swiss, but at that point it would be 3 adapters on top of each other. Ronin's plate to BMPCC Offset Plate to Arca Swiss Clamp/Plate.

Hi Ray! Thank you so much for making these videos. They're super helpful. I know you answered the same question already about two handles, but I'm still a bit confused. I want to use the Nucleus N-Nano and attach a handle on each side. Would you suggest buying two of the same $20 SmallRig handles to go on each side? I was looking at the SmallRig handle which looks like it has a better grip (but it has a NATO clamp handle... didn't even know what that is!) link: www.amazon.com/SMALLRIG-Handle-Rubber-Release-Universal/dp/B076ZW1P92#customerReviews What is the best two handle solution? Thank you!!
@RayValencia
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Alexander. If you have the regular DJI focus wheel, that handle will definitely work. If you have the Nucleus Follow Focus wheel on the Quick Release plate that it comes with (for the Ronin), it should fit with that handle, but it will be tight. If you have the SmallRig QR plate like I do, it's hard to say because it's a much thicker QR plate. I recently ordered the Wooden Handle with the NATO clamp (SmallRig part HTN2362), and it does not have enough clearance on the left side for the Nucleus Follow Focus. The NATO clamp is right against the top of the Follow Focus wheel, and you wouldn't be able to see the screen, or use the buttons. I think a handle without a NATO clamp would be better for the left side like this: www.smallrig.com/smallrig-top-handle-rubber-1446.html?afmc=1js For 10% off your order from SmallRig use the code "STARSTRUNG" at checkout.

@@RayValencia Thank you so much for this discount and help, Ray. So, to clarify, I can attach a SmallRig Top Handle 1446 to each side --- onto the SmallRig Mounting Clamp (SmallRig 2221), and there will be just enough room for Nucleus N-Nano? I was thinking of getting the SMALLRIG Dual Handle Handgrip (www.amazon.com/SMALLRIG-Handle-Handgrip-Handheld-Gimbal/dp/B07NXRV38Z#customerReviews) ...but I'm afraid that this handle may be too wide to comfortably maneuver the focus wheel while maintaining control of the two handles. I'm sorry for all the questions, I'm pretty new to this area of video production gadgets. Thanks again!
