I remember being wrapped up in monofilament on a dive once in really rough swell near the shore. I was so wrapped up I couldn't free my arms to get to my ankle knife. Thankfully I had a micro blade stuffed in the sleeve of my wetsuit that I could use. Much easier to draw, didn't need a lot of movement to get it free, and more than enough cutting edge to get me out of a bind - literally.

Neat little knives. I'd probably go with the scandi grind. Don't feel the need though, since I already have an Eldris. The Eldris is available with an optional belt loop kit, but I've found that I can slip the Eldris in its plastic scabbard into a tactical flashlight pouch for belt carry and can still draw the knife from the scabbard without having to take the whole thing out of the pouch.

Outside of just a small whittling knife I don't really see a place for these kind of small fixed blades. I've had an eldris and I have never wanted to carry or use it over a full sized mora. Too bulky to be an edc and at that short of a blade most folders will be just as if not more capable. Just cannot see why you would ever want this over a mora campanion, but different strokes for different folks I suppose.
@MB-jg4tr
2 күн бұрын
That's my finding as well. I tried an eldris, the blade is just too small & awkward with the short fat handle for my normal use. There's not enough flat on the teeny blade for easy push cutting, and my hand grip on the handle limited blade usage close to the handle. My EDC pocket knife is more useful in every way. For a small fixed blade I've found the Outdoor Edge - LeDuck knife a good fit for me. It's got an interesting duck-bill handle that's quite ergonomic and more comfortable to use than it appears, and I can make full use of the blade with my fingers out of the way. Only drawback is limited grip position, but it hasn't bothered me much with my usage. Sheath is good and has great retention, plus the clip has a 360° pivot and clips to a backpack strap nicely. Also easy to add a ulti clip if you want it more streamlined like I did. As for Morakniv's the Mora2000 outdoor knife has remained my favorite.

I like keeping the neck knife handy when I saddle hunt in case I need to cut a rope in a hurry. Hard to argue that a knife that size is anything other than a utility tool. Harder to argue that the scandi grind is not the king of utility grinds. I need something else I have folders and fixed blades in sizes appropriate to more heavy duty work. But for this tool and the niche it lives in anything other than scandi is just vanity in wanting to look cool. A caveat of course being a last ditch defense, scandi is not the best for that. Of course I have a clinch pick for that.

I cannot believe there are places that don't allow folding knives, are they outside of North America? I even looked at California's weird laws & counties, didn't see it there but damn do they have some dumb laws that you're expected to follow & know. I'm Canadian, it's unfortunate that I can't carry a weapon for self defense let alone a gun (I'm a huge gun guy, just can't carry legally here). It's as if the government thinks the average human doesn't "need" to be able to defend themselves. That's a job for the police only! Ridiculous. If I had to use my blade for anything defensive, I'd be in jail & fined heavily if I'm lucky. I'd more than likely see a jail cell while I waited, or eventually a prison cell for life. However, on the bright side... It's also nice to not have any restrictions on knives. I rotate carry a Pursuit Pro S35VN fixed blade & a Leatherman Arc/Charge TTI nearly every day. Other days I'll carry a LM Bond for the tools & a Spyderco PM2 or Manix 2 LW for my main knife. Even to my doctor & other related sessions. Frankly, I forget about my fixed blade most of the time until I need a more durable or comfortable knife as a typical Leatherman isn't an optimal handle shape. I do like the Skeletool, very comfortable. I own each model, regular, CX, RX. Highly recommend any tools I mentioned here.
