That would actually be a good balance everyone recognizes sleeping tiger as a runner suit and people wearing is are instantly sussed out as runners or posers

My problem is always having all the small stuff, but never needing most of it, or forgetting I have it in the long list of items in my gear section. Like, I'll have some lock picks or auto picker and a crowbar or the like, but still end up shooting the lock with a silenced gun. Stupid things like that.

Also, the cloaking and stealth thing... Stupid overpowered. Like, I can have 4 sneak and as long as I don't crit, that -6 to perception means even someone with 9 to their perception will struggle to see me. It just means everyone has some form of alternate vision in my experience. Everyone has at least thermal or something they check occasionally as a security NPC.

Unfortunately shadowrun as written is very meticulous and indepth with it's gear and rules which is why it's important as a group to decided how depth and crunchy you want your games to be. As for shooting locks out with silenced pistols while I enjoy the idea reality is that locks even old ones are fairly solid and would take a decent amount of time to shoot out and whilst the gun is silenced the bullet hitting the lock is not. You may find it quicker in the future to simply pick the lock but if the method you are currently using is cool with you and your group and you can't be bothered as it is just adding more clutter to your game then just continue as you were. As for cloaking and stealth, it's honestly not what I would consider to be stupidly overpowered as it usually only appears that way to alot of new players and to gms who don't really know how to handle it. Stealth especially magic base stealth only affects the physical realm and thus any wage mages assigned or working for corps will usually employ watcher spirits and whilst you're invisible to the mundanes you shine like a christmas light on the astral plane. Cameras with thermal or ultrasound as also very common and easy to obtain ways to combat steal even of the magical variety. More exotic methods such as trained para-critters see magik guard dogs are also available. It will always come down to situation and circumstance, the magical stealth approach may work the first few times but eventually someone will catch on to what you're doing a security routines will adapt to work around it. Ultimately the shadowrun like any game is as complicated or as simplistic as you want, if you group doesn't like having to log and keep massive lists of gear then it's fine to keep it simple and assume that your characters as professional criminals have the correct gear related to their profession or appropriate to their backstory.

SomethingAbout TableTop I agree totally. The issue with the locks was forgetting I could pick it with my items. (Like, 4 in lock picking, but with the R6 auto picker it's 10. That'd be sufficient if I could remember the fkin thing... I've gotten better at it so far though, Hero Lab is helping me with all the info on one page.) The rest of it I think was just lazy group in the long run. Like, I could generally get around an obstacle or two without any worries, but the group were more straight forward without the ability to adapt to the challenges, while the GM was a lot better at the game and would accidentally crush the group because they wouldn't use any supporting gear. I've taken time to make a few versions of every char type I can think of so far, which has really helped me think in new directions and understand more of what the game has to offer on the large scale in doing so... Again, Hero Lab with all the rules laid out in front of you, instead of just a page number really helps, since I don't end up spending 75% of the time flipping pages to find the footnotes to the various items and modifications. (Even then, half of them are just notes and not rulings.) I really do love Shadowrun though. It's nitty and gritty but paints such a wonderful world that lets you feel like a badass at every turn.

Armored jacket with gel packs and a helmet/ballistic mask is the go-to starting armor in my group. Cheap, easily expandable in ability with mods, and a decent starting armor rating. I usually go mask for the identity concealing and add the chemical protection or helmet with gasmask for the same reason.

That's an extra 4 armor, though. I think you need a certain amount of strength to carry the weight. Also the gel packs will make you even more susceptible to getting knocked on your hoop.

Archers are a thing more because of the Arrow series than Hawkeye I think. But yeah, crossbows are ridiculously awesome!

You can also from Run Faster take the Restricted Gear quality which at chargen lets you buy any one item at Avail 24 or lower for 10 Karma. Then you buy Heavy Hardened Milspec Armor from Run&Gun for 25k and the Helmet for another 10k (22 and 8 availability respectively) and you have 23 Hardened armor at chargen, affordable for anyone with even just D in resources. You are effectively immune to anything short of an assault cannon, including grenades. Of course you'll never get to use it on any missions where you're going to need to not be noticed, but if your group likes the Pink Mohawk style and tends to do big loud runs, well...

23 hardened armor seems like overkill. You'd need to slap APDS into a proper sniper rifle and/or use the Bulls Eye Burst trick shot (Run and Gun 116) just to have a chance of getting through. But note the "blasts in a confined space" section and sidebar on page 183 of the base book. A well-placed explosion can still frag you up. Also it seems a waste to put all those resources into one of the few armors that can take the chemical seal mod and not slap it on for a few thousand extra.

Q: Is armor/clothing one-size fits all or does it need to be custom fit? As a GM would you allow PC to remove an enemies clothes and just upgrade on the spot or require them to tailor the outfit or impose a penalty?

I think in 5th Its kinda 1 size fits all to a point except for certain races like Dwarfs / Trolls which it will state under the race itself the Stats are the same however just price differance (again based on race) example I think Trolls / Dwarfs only one who changes the price Trolls i think is double the price on weapons/armor and such and Dwarfs its 20% off? Not sure
