Super timely. We are hoping to lock in an order on a TPMS today and were down to these same two units. We use the built in truck monitoring on our Ford so we’ll get the add-on just for our trailer. Leaning Tireminder. We also just had Lithium installed so not sure how the booster will connect to that - to be seen. Thanks for the overview.

We have the Tireminder i10, which allows us to see all of our tires at once. On our long trip last summer, we did get some odd/radical readings - extreme/sudden temp changes - which wasnt very comforting when there wasnt a problem. Since then, no alarms. We experience the same prob with the display not realizing the trailer isnt there for an extended period. Id figure an alarm would sound if signal is suddenly lost - like if there is a tire failure...

Yes that was absolutely our concern also. It should really alert immediately if the sensor is not there, not 40 miles away? But very odd that the TST did this also. We will reach out and ask for some more information regarding this.

Good choice. Also, note that TST was originally developed for professional truckers. TST customer service is great! I was having a difficult time programming mine, so I called CS. They walked me through the process, and it still wouldn't work. So they asked me to send them back for replacement. They tested them when they received them, and amazingly were able to program them. So they programed them to my parameters and returned them to me. Shipping and programming all for free. Now I need to get a sensor for the spare. Thanks for the tip. 🍻

I have a 7 x 16 tandem axle trailer. I just got the TST I got an incredible deal the monitor and 10 sensors for $150 anyways have an install yet I do have a couple concerns tho.... both having to do with the weight of the sensor on the wheel, my valve stems are plastic not metal and I fear that overtime spinning with the inertia it may crack the valve stem. The other also having to do with weight as to whether or not put the tire out of balance. Hmmmmm🧐 / now with that shit I’ve done a ton of research. I can’t find anybody talking about the out of balance issue, a few people, but not many talk about crack valve stems however those may be on Val stems that are old and starting to fail to begin with. So the wind up here is that I may end up Ending steel valve stems along with the internal sensors when I eventually changed the tires. We shall see anyways just came across your channel. Great video. Thanks 1 million.

Man did you set up your TireMinder goofy. You could have easily put your truck and trailer on the same screen, EASILY. I did. Put the truck tires on the four outer tires in the diagram. Put the four trailer tires in the four inner tire diagram. Unless you have dually tires on the truck, this method is GREAT! One screen shows all and it does not have to flash between two screens, as your setup did.

Can I assume that being British you are in Britain and therefore you maybe haven't ever deflated your tyres for track and beach driving? The reason I ask is that the vast majority of TPMS's have a low-pressure alarm which goes off constantly when you drop your tyre pressure to say 20 PSI. Did you experience any of this and did either device have a 4WD mode?
@BrazenBrits

Hi Jackaroo, We are actually in the US now. We used to offroad a lot in the UK in a Landrover 300TDi, but it was mainly mud driving, so didn't really have a need to lower the tire pressures too often. We found that thinner more inflated tires cut through the clay and mud much better. Both TPMSs have low pressure alarms and I know for sure that the TST is configurable for this. however, we use this mainly to monitor our RV tire pressures on long trips to avoid blow-outs.

You both are so funny! I like how you both chose differently. Natalie I like the tire minder too because it looked easy to set up. I was confused with the TST with the flashing lights. But I’m glad Natalie decided to keep the Tireminder for her car which is cool. And glad you kept the TST for the truck and trailer. I found that I was constantly looking at my TST monitor on the first few legs of our trip after installing it. Now I only occasionally look at it and really depend on the alerts to let me know if something is wrong. Good tip on the spares…..I’m going to order two more monitors for mine also. In the end, either is better than no monitor at all and makes travel day that much easier since you don’t have to manually measure the pressure as you mentioned.

I own both, and you nailed it! TST is a PITA, mostly! What you brought out in good points for the TST is not my concerns anyway have contacted BOTH and asked it a Sensor could be incorporated to know Bearing Temps. Never forget to check those temps with the back of your hand, or better yet, an IR Temp Sensor. I doubt they will take my opinion, but I have lost 4 Bearings causing catastrophic Failures. I am designing my own actually now. Just an idiot light but can pullover to do my checks. I have been RV'ing since 1977, and owned every type of RV made, I ONLY have 3 of them, right now! Oh, and 24 Boats that I haul, so those bearings are the worst out there! LOL

I was able to sync my TST sensors with them already installed on the tires. TST also has setups for different trailers, so for those with multiple trailers you can have multiple trailers already set up and switch between them(RV, horse trailer, and the like). It also can quickly switch to not monitor any trailer if desired. TST also has the fast leak alert so for those with a big fifth wheel that might not immediately feel a blow out it will make noise and let you know. Thanks for the comparison as I was bouncing between the two units.

Great compromise you two We will research both a little more in depth....but tire pressure is a real safety issue and your home away from home is riding on it....I would say a good bang for your buck considering how much damage a single blow out can cause. The only issue I would have is I'm not much of a technical geek, but I might be able to handle the TST.

Their truck is new enough to have factory TPS, so they wasted money on four extra sensors and made reading pressures more complicated. Even with extra unnecessary sensors for the truck, they could have put 8 tires on one screen. It's not complicated to read. I did it and it worked GREAT!

Function over form is the key here. No matter what the unit looks like has no importance compared to how accurate the system is. Knowing that you can monitor your tires and be alerted when potential trouble rears it ugly head is priceless. My personal feelings are, if a company gives (or loans) someone a product to review or compare to another like product, the product should be returned or the reviewer should give the product away in a random drawing. If it turned out to be something the reviewer needed or wants, then they should purchase it. But thats just my view from here. Nice video comparing two Tpm systems.

We use $36 dollar 4 tire wireless tpm from Amazon. Our truck has tpm built in. Our trailer is 31' for reference. It displays four tires at the same time, no booster. It takes a few minutes for all of them to register when we start out. The sensors came labeled for the tire it's setup for, but you can reprogram them if you need to. This is the second one as we left the first one was left on the dash in the sun too long. I question the actual temperature reading though because the sensor is external to the tire. But it's clear after a few minutes on the highway the pressure does increase in each tire 5 to 7psi. I have compared the pressure reading to an actual pressure gauge (Slime digital) and they appear to be about 1psi different.

Tip for TireMinder. Since you have a single rear wheel truck set the monitor like you did. front and outer middle. For the trailer with 4 tires use the inner 4 locations (the ones for front and rear inner duals) for the trailer and now you have all 8 tires on one screen!

Sorry, I think the idea of a sensor on spare tire is a waste of $. If you change a flat & spare is low, just add air with the ViAir. That's what it for, adding air to a tire (or is it tyre).

Another option for Ford owners when order your truck is get the Ford Ultimate Tow Package. The package comes with four trailer replacement valve stem sensors like your existing truck tires. You have to install the wiring loom on the trailer, but it has a repeater and backup camera too. The trailer pressure sensors are on the trailer menu in your center display which is one over to the right from your truck tire pressure. You can see all four at the same time, but have to switch between truck and trailer. I’m not worried about truck so I live the display on trailer. The same menus set that tell you if your trailer lights are ok, etc. Temperature is not included, but it is easy to see the effect by how much the pressure increases. On the 15K# 5er I see increase from 110 PSI cold to 135 PSI sunny side with wind loads from cross winds. It is easy to tell which side is sunny or loaded from winds from just tire pressure. BTW with it built in the dash, one less thing on the dash. With a 13.5’ high rig, I have RV Garmin GPS unit and Furrion rear camera monitor too so I’m glad not to have a third display to deal with. Yes I have two cameras for when really backing up, but Ford lawyers don’t let you see the camera displayed above 5mph.

@@BrazenBrits When I was ordering a $70K truck to pull a $65K trailer, the option was in the noise for me since we are only on our 4th RV in 36 years of RV’ing. I had to order 3rd party replacement valve stems since I have 16” G rated rims on my Solitude. The stock Ford trailer sensors are for the vast majority of tow behind trailers than heavy 5ers.

Hi Lawrence & Natalie: You guys are one of our favorite RV KZitemrs. I think I know why your monitor thinks all is fine when you are out of range. The sensors have the ability to know when the tires are in motion. If they are stationary, to save the battery they do not send a signal out too frequently. I'm not sure how long but it could be 20 minutes. However when in motion they are reporting every few seconds. When you drive away the monitor is programed to send an alert after at least 20 min has elapsed. (again I am not sure how long that actually is). Lou & Diane.

Hey guys, you may want to look at other models in either or both manufacturers. We have the Tireminder A1AS and its been great. Larger screen and we can see up to 22 tires at once, and can manually switch between PSI and temp with the press of a button. it also has Bluetooth connectivity, so you can monitor from your phone and you have some settings in there (This is for you, Laurence) that you can adjust. Just a suggestion. As long as you have something that in the end alerts you of an issue, preferably before its too late, thats all that counts! :)

We currently run the TST... but I am not thrilled. My wife has to monitor it because of the small size and individual tire display. When I'm driving alone, I can't watch it safely. I also don't like that the alert sound is constant till you hit a button. If I experience a blowout the last thing I need while trying to keep the rig under control is a constant beeping. The newer TireMinder A1AS appears to resolve all these issues and more.
