dobu here-glad you enjoyed the map! Seems that for every person that likes it, there's always someone that hates it for being dark. And cramped. And filled with un-killable archviles. And dark. And deprived of munitions. So it's always nice when folks enjoy its prickly nature. Believe it or not, the original map was 16 units darker-I was told in playtesting to knock it off and add some light :P Also, working on this map made me swear off vanilla Doom due to all the visplane limits and whatnot. Was a real headache. There's actually a little bit more cover in the archvile cavern than there should be due to needing to block the player's sight! I'm fairly certain that if the AVs lift you up, your game is likely to crash before you run out of health. I'm Glad I got to make at least one map under those limitations... you never really understand or respect how truly constrictive vanilla mapping is until you try it yourself.

Hands down, one of the most memorable maps of Revilution, from how you almost feel your face melting due to archvile exposure, to the creative puzzles, to the claustrophobic fights in the blood tunnels. Not very nice of me but I was entertained by decino freaking out, it really shows what a masterpiece of survival horror FPS this level is.

Blood tunnels, or sludge tunnels? Come to think of it, hell maps go great with rancid muddy brown water. Makes the place feel filthy and grim without being garish like nukage or blood and avoiding the expectations that lava creates.

I felt every tense moment and appreciative marvel like I was playing the map myself. 9% HP face rocket hype!!

See, I meant what I said last episode when I referred to this map as "cerebral". Dobu really brought his skills to the finest edge in this one, mixing atmosphere, enemy composition, the puzzle elements, and by good golly gee, the music. Avec Vous is one of those midis that are so closely married to an excellent and popular map that it'll be _hard_ to re-use without feeling tacked on. If you liked this half as much as it sounds like you did, then I wager I know what to submit in a future submission roundup. 😉

I do remember taking like an hour and a half in this one and I died A LOT. You can find the exit earlier, but after seeing my stats that I am definitely missing a lot here, I had to check it all out and I am glad I did. The fact how little enemies there are and how well they were placed/used is insane by itself. Like it was 37 minutes long gameplay of this map you,'ve done, but there wasn't as much enemy fighting, yet every encounter with enemies was a difficult one. I thought you were done in the archvile area when dropping to 9 HP, but great comeback! Darkness makes this even harder/more creepy and the puzzles were interesting. Dobu Gabu Maru can deliver some great masterpieces.

I love it when a map brings doom back to its horror roots with all that grim atmosphere, dark catacombs of monsters you're ill-equipped to deal with, and that midi sounds like something stomping its way through the underground ready to tear you to shreds. I'm so glad I could watch some else playing this map. I could never play such a map myself just like I cannot play survival horror games either. I cannot play a game where I'm constantly afraid of what's happening behind the next corner or always expect a jump scare to happen. When I'm constantly under such a tension, I choke all the time, even in situations that should be easy to handle otherwise. The darkness, the midi, the winding paths, and the whole setting just scare the heck out of me.

Man I thought it was gonna be as bad as TNT Evilution map 16, but no this map here is much better and alot better than Evilution map 16 for sure. Devil's Den? It is a better way to say it here than Baron's Den cause again, Baron's Den is boring as hell. This one here feels more Den in a way for nasty enemies in a tight corner place and Arch-Vile secrets are also nasty to take out at least 10 perhaps. Not to mention the puzzles here are something to consider about cause this one is a very good puzzle to do. Normally I don't like puzzles as much but this one is a clever to figure out just for lovely rewards. Not my favorite one, but this one is really good so glad I watched this video. This MIDI, daaaang! Please do more like this very often. 😃

Always interesting to encounter sections where the design theme shamelessly changes completely, like the floor-passage control rooms rocket launcher secret area. Suddenly you're in 100% techbase for a secret puzzle section right after a deep blood-soaked bone cave. And the contrasting bright textures of Doom certainly help with achieving this.

If you didn’t start above ground and take the plunge down the unintended shaft then it wouldn’t feel anywhere near as suffocating being down in the dark. One of the rare Doom maps that makes you FEEL like you are somewhere real.
