Tokyo Olympics 2020: Chinese Swimmers Had Tested Positive For Doping
The World Anti-Doping Agency stated on April 20 that 23 Chinese swimmers had tested positive for doping before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. However, the agency accepted China’s findings and stated that this was due to substance contamination. The swimmers had tested positive for a banned drug called trimetazidine or TMZ. It is found generally in heart medications. The agency later stated that the athletes would be held to have no fault or negligence. During the Olympics, the Chinese team of 30 members won six medals including three golds. The athletes who fail the doping test face a ban of up to four years for a first offence and for life for a second.
