I believe he is the only entertainer I truly cared anything about. He did it right. Not overly insulting others, mostly making humor at his own expense while having the confidence and twinkle in his eye knowing we all had the same shortcomings. I miss the true entertainment values him and his generation provided. Godspeed Bob.

Anyone here think it's cool how Bob Hope lived long enough to see the year 2000 (new millennium)? Considering the fact that he was born in 1903.
@nickrichard8333

Yes. I thought it in paradoxical way: His existence was appropriate for that entire century, with his sense of comedy arriving about the same time the movie industry was rapidly developing into talking pictures. He just seemed to fit. Whether or not he was born in England made no difference. Whether or not he was "getting up in age" when the movie industry was starting to make real momentum in the 1940's. He just seem to fit. His humor and comical appearance were of the times - right up into the 1990's. Before entertainment & social media had disgustingly driven the style and quality of comedy out of the gutter and off to the sewage treatment plant. Which Im glad class acts like him, and my folks aren't around to see how worse society is nowadays. His existence was strange, perhaps even frightening in the sense that during his time he witnessed the not so good stuff of life, which included rapid transformation of military strategies combined with equally impressive development of equipment (subs, aircraft carriers, tanks, airborne deployment of troops, planes and of course, powerful bombs). As a result of those Great Wars, society rapidly transformed too - transportation, communication, cold storage, public utilities (esp. water related), work environments such as the production lines, modern medicine etc. etc. These things are good of course, except it means progress. With progress there's more people. With more people there are more problems. So it was good & bad times he lived in. He lived in an extraordinary era, punctuated as you noted from 1901-2003. Which I think is fine. If I was faced with living for a century, I would want the same timeline if I was to be so fortunate.

Eric you sadly are wrong. He entertained people in his films, comedy, at the many Academy Award shows he hosted and throughout World War 2 was one of the top people who entertained the U.S. troops overseas. All of the good he did I am sure outweighed the bad. Plus you seem to think that God would not forgive him. Also he divorced his first wife in 1934 and was married to his second until his death.

@@OikPoinFive "He was evil. A sinner." Does not the bible state that condition for every human? Does God weigh one sin more than another, or is it that we all are sin that makes us not presentable to God? Get off you holy high horse, the sin you have displayed in your posts (and that sin is numerous) does nothing to glorify God, only to spout your arrogance. God knows where Bob is, really none of your business...look after your own soul and leave the judging to the Lord.

Eric unless he confessed his sins to God and asked for forgiveness before he passed away. Even if it was in the last few minutes of his life. The Bible says we are not to judge the condition of another persons soul, for we know not the inner workings of others. We can not say with any certainty whether or not a person is in hell only that we pray he or she asked for forgiveness. Comments like yours give Christians a bad name. All can be forgiven as long as we ask just as the prodigal son returned home and was welcomed by his father so we are welcomed by our Heavenly Father when we humbly ask for forgiveness. You should worry more about the condition of your soul and less about others. Shame on you
