Program Notes:
Upon watching the 1963 film Tom Jones, starring a young Albert Finney, I was both amused and appalled. The bulk of the plot centers around a young rake’s series of romantic escapades, while a woman who loves him follows his trail, attempting to find him and profess that love. He is arrested for a surprisingly non-lecherous crime and is set to be hanged when it is revealed he was actually of noble birth and therefore above punishment. Using elements of John Addison’s manic, ridiculous score for the film, I imagined a more fitting end for the protagonist, where he is justly damned for his crimes of the heart.
