Hi Richard. Another fun video. I actually love You're Gonna Get It. I'm glad you defended Long After Dark. I'd have to say Wildflowers is my overall favorite. More great content from you as always

Thanks for this Richard, I really enjoyed listening to talk your way through these albums. I was into Tom Petty right from the start and bought the first 3 albums as they came out. I then dropped out for a few years only buying Tom's albums occasionally - Full Moon fever , Into the Great Wide open and highway Companion. When he died I bulk bought almost everything else but I have a few gaps including your number 1. Full Moon fever for me is my number 1 but still think the debut is high up in my ranking as would be Drop the Torpedoes and Wildflowers. I also like hypnotic Eye a lot more than you do. Im off to have a listen to let me Up, Ive Had Enough. Great video my friend.

Hi Richard - very good and interesting ranking - you’re definitely the first person I’ve seen to put let me up I’ve had enough at number 1, definitely an album I need to revisit as is highway companion as I really enjoy the two singles Saving Grace and Down South but haven’t really got to know the rest of the album well

Hi Ross, revisit Flirting With Time and Big Weekend from Highway Companion, two of his all time catchiest songs. I've always loved Let me Up (I've Had Enough) and to this day I still can't get enough of Runaway Trains and How Many More Days. Maybe a collab video of top 20 Tom Petty songs somewhere down the line, if you are interested?

Hi Richard ..My Top 3 of TP ..# 1 You're Gonna Get It ..30 minutes of pop perfection. Way low at # 13 on you're list 😆 # 2 Wildflowers & # 3 .. The debut. Most of his albums are definitely marred by some filler with some great singles. Heartbreakers are a great backing band. Have a great weekend 👍

@Richard McCook Back in the late 70's Petty was a part of the power pop scene for me with bands like 20/20 , The Plimsouls , The Records , Cheap Trick , Dwight Twilley Band .. Like Cheap Trick he changed corse to a more traditional rock sound after some success.

Hi Richard, I really enjoyed your ranking of the Tom Petty studio albums & for me my favourite is Highway Companion followed by Wildflowers (my favourite album of the 90s) & Full Moon Fever which you could say is the Traveling Wilburys volume 2! I appreciate the shout out, I’m a little surprised you remembered, that was my favourite Tom Petty tune! What’s your favourite American band, for me it’s Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers!😃🎸

Good list Richard, with an interesting number one choice. Given how much I love the Petty albums I like (if you get my drift), I can't quite believe I've still never heard all his records! I reckon the reason 'Hypnotic Eye' got so high in the charts is simply because by then artists didn't have to sell all that much to get high in the charts. I have a particular take on Petty which a lot of fans probably wouldn't approve of in the sense that I think the first two Jeff Lynne albums are light years ahead of anything he ever did, before or after.

Hi James, as yolu can see I almost tend to agree with you as those first two Lynne albums were my no. 2 and no. 3 choices. If you haven't heard the third Lynne produced album, I urge you to give it a shot.

Hi Richard, excellent ranking video mate, Tom Petty has always had a huge following here in Australia and still gets lots of radio play on the rock orientated stations. i think he is great but alas, i own only a handful of his albums. i too saw him on that tour with Dylan where The Heartbreakers were Dylan's backing band and support act. listen to Johnny Cash's version of "southern accents" and im sure you will love it as Cash put a lot of feeling in to his version. i refer to his style/sound as 'americana mixed with heartland rock with a country element entwined throughout it' - Lloyd

Hi Lloyd, I actually prefer Johnny Cash's version of Southern Accents and you are correct, he does put a lot of feeling into it. Have you heard his version of Gordon Lightfoot's If You Could Read Me Mind? His version always brings a tear to my eye.

I was really surprised by your #1. I was sure it would've been Full Moon Fever. Me, i like bluesy rock songs so i would've placed both Hypnotic Eye and Mojo a lot higher. Tom Petty is one of those rare occasions where i can name my fave without a doubt, it's Wildflowers. At the bottom without a closer listen; Echo. It left me quite disappointed so i haven't given it more than a couple of listens. I enjoyed this even though i would place his albums very differently. Pasi

Thanks Pasi, Echo is a decent album but there is no real spark. I tend to group it along with The Last DJ. In fact I do that with quite a few of his albums eg. the first and the second, Torpedoes & Promises, Full Moon Fever & Wide Open etc

Interesting Richard. I have to admit I'm not really knowledgeable about his career post Southern Accents - don't know why as I was a big fan back in the day. The exception to that is Wildflowers which I only heard for the first time with the expanded reissue - it's very good but I wouldn't put it near the top. My favourite two would be Damn The Torpedoes and Hard Promises.

Interesting ranking of all your Tom Petty albums. I haven’t heard all of Tom’s albums. I feel like out of all his albums I’ve listened to the most is wildflowers. It has a lot of good songs on it. Rest in peace to Tom Petty. He was a very good musical artist. The very 1st video I ever watched from you is when you were ranking all the albums of cat stevens especially his Yusuf stuff. I liked your cat stevens content you did a few years back. Just out of curiosity, if you had to change your mind about your favorite cat stevens album, which album would you pick besides Teaser and the firecat?

That’s a good choice. Mona Bone Jakon is a really great album. It is one of the best albums Cat has ever done. I like how plain and simple it is. It is a pure folk album. My favorite album from Cat is Buddha and the chocolate box. I love every one of his albums from his Cat Stevens period. In my opinion Buddha and the chocolate box is the best album, musically. I really like how it is more piano and keyboard based, but it does have an acoustic guitar flavor to it. It has a lot of wonderful songs that are really well done.
