small correction: in Tzaar, the first player only gets one move, to offset the advantage of going first. After that, both players get two moves per turn.

Btw from Hero Realms Rules: "Ally Abilities are indicated by a faction icon in the text box. On your turn, an Ally Ability may be used as soon as you have another card of that faction in play. The order in which you play your cards does not matter. As soon as you have two or more cards of the same faction in play, you may trigger all relevant Ally Abilities. They may be used at any time during your Main Phase, and each may only be used once per turn." as I read that one as they work exactly like star realms, if it were like here where the card you played that "gained" the ability from other card then the order of your cards would matter.

not meant as "you're so wrong", you had fun and that is the most important thing with any board game =) but maybe important for someone else, since it mess up the balance a tiny bit.

Yes you're supposed to just play everything and everything triggers off each other
@TorIverWilhelmsen

Yeah, I think they get confused by the Legendary Encounters games where the "faction" dependent abilities only count icons played previously - so the order matters.

I was confused too! I thought I read the rule book wrong. But I specifically looked when one player played two Elven blessing. When two are played, for example, he was supposed to get 8 attack points just from playing two Elven Blessing at once, right?

Hey guys, great video! But, I just wanted to clarify the rules on Hero Realms and Star realms, you can at any time choose when to use the ally ability throughout your turn. Excerpt from rules: Ally Abilities are indicated by a faction icon in the text box. On your turn, an Ally Ability may be used as soon as you have another card of that faction in play. The order in which you play your cards does not matter. As soon as you have two or more cards of the same faction in play, you may trigger all relevant Ally Abilities. They may be used at any time during your Main Phase, and each may only be used once per turn.

Guys, thank you so much for TZAAR! Seeing more and more abstracts played is a great thing, since it's a genre often overshadowed in the hobby either by non-abstracts or ancient classics, while there are amazing games that deserver more attention. Also, whole GIPF series is going for reprint now, so 2017 could be a great abstract comeback time with Santorini's release and YINSH, TZAAR, GIPF, DVOON and others GIPF-series re-released (including the new game).

Sam Healey Yeah. I lost that way the other day & was bummed. Seemed counterintuitive, but the more I think about it, I like it. Adds a little wrinkle, bit of strategy. If you're excited at winning 4, you still need to be wary which ones, and if you're a bit behind with the majorities, you can try to go for the higher score. Keeps you on your toes. Good game. Was fun watching...

At 48:44 Zee could have easily won the first Tzaar game by capturing Tom's last remaining "point" pieces but I think he let him win on purpose instead. :) That is what a good teacher would so that the learner would want to play again, and Zee generally gives an impression of a guy who is just nice like that. :)

Hanamikoji should have square geisha cards that start looking at no one and look towards you when you gain their favor. No tokens. I thought of it during toms comments how none were facing him. Seems better.

@timsmith6309

Hero Realms feels a little more balanced than Star Realms. In Hero Realms your champions (bases) are featured in portrait mode not landscape like in Star Realms. This is important so the champions can be exhausted (tapped). This makes the game so much easier for new players, and to prevent the uh did I already use this ability? The Hero packs unbalance the game. Cleric is way better than the other classes. Ranger is my favorite in the way it plays. Fighter is probably the worst class. Wizards relies heavily on getting action cards which it can fall short of doing often. Thief has a great hero power if you draft green (now power and discard), but the throwing daggers often do nothing. The treasure cards really swing the game towards the Cleric players too. It would of been nice if the heroes synergized better with their factions. Wizard is good with blue (thieves), Cleric any champion heavy strategy that presents itself, Thief and Ranger are great with green for different reasons, and Fighter doesn't matter much. Hero Realms plays differently than Star Realms in the since its better to take early game power cards rather than stock up on buying power for the mid to late game. You crush your opponents before they can stabilize going aggro. This is even better when using Heroes. Also make sure to use the hero abilities when possible. They can make or brake the game. Hero Realms really falls short in the inability to scrap cards in the trade now. Overall the new set is definitely worth picking up though.

Nah, then it would be too hard to try and cancel your opponent's effect. There have been many times where I had a strong feeling of the card my opponent wanted to play and I just wanted to completely cancel that action because any other card I had was either higher or much lower (which would benefit them greatly). Having just 9 cards makes it easier to remember and easier to counterplay, which is what most of Faidutti's role selection games are like anyway.
