Always makes a little sad that we'll never get to see these two play together again. What an absolute joy they are to watch. So amazingly, phenomenally, magically great 💕

I understand that Phil ( the older Emnanuel brother would learn guitar licks by ear then teach them to his younger brother Tommy. That should tell you about the awesome playing and humbleness of Phil Emmanuel and Tommy Emmanuel.

Yes the Emmanuel Brothers are very very talented....i agree ! But there are many many many other talented guitarists in this old world too. Each Guitarist is as unique as our fingerprints are.....there is NO BEST BEST GUITARIST IN THE WORLD! JUST LIKE THERE IS NO BEST ARTIST IN THE WORLD. EACH ONE IS UNIQUE AND EXPRESSES THEMSELVES DIFFERENTLY!!!

Yes, but I think that misses the point. We're not talking about the best within a multitudinous array of genres and categories. We're talking about the best as far as instrumental guitar duets are concerned. And this is a very niche market genre and category to start off with. There aren't that many of them. Try doing a Google search for instrumental guitar duet and all you will get is mostly elevator music. Try and find a dozen different notable and comparable instrumental guitar duet acts notated in the historical literature, KZitem, magazine's, CDs, records, etc. Tommy teamed up with one such an act, being Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo. They of course are a really good act. In Sydney there was also Michael fix and Justin McCoy, who are also an awesome act. But can they compare to the Emanuel Brothers? Maybe they can. But even they themselves would take their hat off to the Emmanuel brothers. So as far as instrumental guitar duets go, I've never seen any that you could say they were definitely a better act. And then there is also Tommy's stature as a universaly acknowledged best ever solo Fingerstyle guitarist. And he would always do his solo fingerstyle act in the middle bracket. These considerations of historical legacy of course are ultimately questions that only historians in the future will ever authoritatively determine. But as a previous commenter suggested, in rural New South Wales, you couldn't help but feeling that when watching these guys perform, it was like you were watching history in the making. And it didn't get any better than that.

The version that Tommy and Phil are playing here is a cover version, or modern adaptation called "Joy", which was originally recorded in 1972 as a pop instrumental by Apollo 100. It reached number six on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number 24 in the RPM Canadian chart. Many people apart from the Emanuel Brothers have covered this particular version. My favourite solo acoustic instrumental guitar arrangement of this version, is by Michael Fix. Have a look at his KZitem video of it. It is very different from the traditional classical guitar arrangement.

Boo! Don't be a jerk. You obviously don't know that using figured bass, Bach himself improvised on his own songs and often played them differently.
