I am a aussie guy who has known Tommy for many many years I still see Tommy in concert whenever he comes home . I rescently saw a vid on here from a recent show & his chops were still cutting it to the detractors YES there are some who like to TRY to run own genuine artists ! I don,t know why either perhaps ..jealousy ..envy I dn,t know BUT I just say Hey ..when you play guitar all your life for & with the greatest recording artist ( vocalist & others ) then venture out as an intrumentilst ...establish a loyal following of people who play & love the music of your chosen instrument ....you sell out concerts all over the EARTH & you keep both feet on the ground & your head n heart with other peoples concerns THEN YOU CAN CLICK THE THUMBS DOWN BUTTON TILL THEN GO AWAY & BE MISERABLE ELSEWHERE !

No one plays your national anthem better. You know -- the one with the lyric that goes . . . "once a jolly swagman camped beside a billy bong, under the shade of a Goolagong tree . . . Thanks to Cameron Shine for eliciting the memory (such as it is). I could be mistaken about those lyrics. Look forward to visiting the land down under. I talked to him once in my hometown Gävle in Sweden. He was a very nice person and was supposed to perform in the Concert Hall later in the evening, although he took his time to talk to us at a ordinary diner about music and guitarplaying. A memory for life. The local radio sent it live.

I was about to say the same thing, thinking of Chet Atkins (with whom Tommy recorded and stayed in a granny flat in Chet's backyard when Mr. Guitar was in his dying days. Chet never performed the same way, "live" at his concerts the songs the way we remembered them -- every note burned into our brains. Thanks, Ted Hoeborn for the memory. Boogie till the cows come home . . . “Actually,” as my favorite actress says in Trouble With The Curve, “That isn't his best pitch. Show him the curve.” “The best guitarist I have ever seen!” declared Eric Clapton -- after watching in amazement as Australia's Tommy Emmanuel played boogie-woogie for ten minutes, without repeating himself: Just when you think he couldn't make it even more interesting, he doubles down, again and again. Look at the faces in this crowd - the intelligence and the joy! You can tell half of them are guitarists! (We are like fishermen recognizing each other from afar.) For now, skip his opener, Classical Gas (best version you've ever heard) but skip ahead to 3:25. [Note to self] Highlights of “better and better” at 6:45 and (funky) at 8:30, 10:45, and 12:45. Not just the speed, but the shading! That plus swing! If the late Oscar Peterson had played guitar, he might have sounded sort of exactly like this. Thanks for sharing. Celebrated this night at Sinatra Family - Forum - "Siriusly Sinatra" - MY FAVORITE VERSION, YOURS TOO? sinatrafamily.com/forum/showthread.php/50225-My-Favorite-Version-%28yours-too-%29?p=1286786#post1286786

I tell them that he may play the same songs (not all the time, but yes I've heard many of the same songs several times) but I've never heard him the play same song the same way twice. So you never know what he is going to put in there. A true master and a genius.

I absolutely love to listen, watch, and hear anything his fans and he himself puts on the internet. He is a true master of his craft. I am always inspired by his showmanship as well as his mastery. I have been playing the guitar for 32 ish years. I think it's strange that anyone would even consider selling their instrument or all together quitting playing the guitar based solely on how much better anyone else is at the same instrument. Even if it is a joke or just a strange way to compliment Tommy. Personally, he keeps me excited about playing and show's me that there are still many ways to improve. Knock the dust off those guitars people, hiding/running from them is truly a wast of a perfectly good tree.
