This song is all about the Fibonacci sequence. The beat AND the syllables of the lyrics are fibonacci

(Almost) all of Tool's music sounds like Tool, but because of the various polyrhythms, time signatures, odd meters, etc. they compose music that is complex and interesting for the mind. When we listen to a song, we generally count out the beat in our brains subconsciously. With Tool that is an interesting task as there are various "beats" to choose from depending on our focus. So, this gets our brain interested in the complexity, and we tend to jump around between various beats. They also are absolute masters of the build up and partial/full release only to groove right back into another slow build before we even figure out what is going on. Lastly is that the music is complex, but never loses its "musicality". Even if we can't count out the beats consistently, the music makes sense as we listen to it (or at least it does for people that like Tool). I think of them as genius composers who also happen to be master musicians and so this is what we get. Just saw them in Hannover, Germany last month. My 6th time seeing them. The music is the music, but when you combine it with their light show it turns into a thundering psychedelic experience - at least for me.

One of the weirdest things about Tool, is almost every song is different, yet you instantly recognize it's Tool as soon as the song starts. Floyd and Zeppelin had the same instantly recognizable sound.

This song is just a masterpiece. I believe Loudwire praised Lateralus to be the best "metal" song in history. Why, well theres a bunch of reasons. Apart from the obvious sound, groove and production value (wich Tool is always on the top end of) there is the spiritual lyrics, built in a mathematic structure of the fibonacci sequence. 1 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 5 Black + Then + White are + All I see + In my infancy. The chorus itself is in a 9/8 8/8 7/7 (987 itself is a fibonacci number) with a shoutout you shouldnt overthing or overanalyze the whole damn thing. Yea, spiral out sometime, or rather see where the universe takes you instead of overthinking everything and beeing stuck in your own world.

All the Tool albums take turns being my favorite (except Fear Inoculum). But Lateralus is always their best. And the song Lateralus is their pinnacle. Rosetta Stoned and Descending are up there but there’s just something about lateralus. It sounds like you’re sitting at the drum kit.

Trying to keep up with all the tracks you've done....have you done any off Salival yet? The bass player, Justin Chancellor, was in a band prior to Tool, called Peach. Peach used to open for early Tool when Paul was still the badsist. One early pic of Justin is him with Peach wearing a Tool tshirt. Then Pail left Tool, and they asked Justin to be bassist. Anyhow, Salival is a gold mine of rare live tracks. One of those live tracks is "You Lied". "You Lied" is an original Peach song that Tool masterfully covered. More masterful tracks on Salival are: Cover of "No Quarter", a profound version of "Pushit", and "Third Eye" ,(which i dont believe youve done yet). I think you might really enjoy the live tracks off Salival.
