@@GetIndieGaming Aw, not a fan? I can't fault anyone for not getting into it because the difficulty curve is pretty punishing, but if you loved Baba is You, I think it deserves another shot. It really gets going in the 3rd and 4th areas and the later levels are the some of the most clever puzzles I've ever seen in a video game. Even though the game gets progressively harder, it actually gets easier to play. Once you've mastered the basics, then you can just focus on the concepts and ideas and it's a lot less frustrating.

The Talos Principle-and its sequel, Road to Gehenna-and Patrick's Parabox would be my top picks. Two other really good 3D platforming logic puzzles are The Last Cube and Lumote: The Mastermote Chronicles. Kine is very clever and charming and Death Squared is also good. Five great point-and-clicks are Machinarium, Candle, Tohu, and Agent A: A Puzzle in Disguise, and the very original and enjoyable Strange Horticulture. If you like The Pedestrian, then you should check out 7th Sector. Filament is good if you like maze puzzles similar in underlying structure (but different in presentation) to those in The Witness. If you like Opus Magnum or other Zachtronics games, then you should check out Human Resource Machine.

Some say Zachtronics games like Opus Magnum are actually a quite different genre (e.g. Problem solving), because they are so open ended, wheras most puzzles basically are a complete thing, the developer broke apart, and the player has to rediscover - you know, like the classic table top picture puzzling. But Zachtronics offer a similar mental challenge, without having to guess what the devs was thinking, but just following the worlds rule.

I would have loved to have seen Legend of Grimrock 2 on this list. It's a revival of the old school dungeon crawler genre, and every door, every bridge you cross, every stairway to the next level is likely to require a puzzle or two to access, sometimes 3 or 5. When I was a kid, it was the dungeon crawler games like Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder, and Lands of Lore that served as my gateway to RPGs because they were a hybrid of RPG and puzzle game. Legend of Grimrock 2 is one of the more beautiful games I've ever seen, yet still manages to stick to the old-school grid-based movement and packs in puzzles blocking your progress left and right. Some are easy, go kill this monster and it'll drop a key and you can progress; hardly even worthy of being called a puzzle. Other's however can really stump the heck out of you. A teleporter on the other side of a pit, it's only on when you stand on a pressure plate, you don't have a clean shot to throw something into the teleporter in order to flip the switch on the other side to close the pit so you can progress. What do you do? A room full of trap doors, every step you take opens or closes other trap doors around you. You need to get from point A to point B, but how do you get there without falling through a trap door? Some are very easy, put an object in an alcove and it opens the door, but you have to solve the riddle written on the wall to know what to put in the alcove: "I am all. I am none." (The answer is a mirror.) "Hard as rock. Blue as sky. Twinkles in a woman's eye." (Sapphire) An empty room except for 6 switches, find the right combination, and you can progress. Easy, straight forward, but man that combination requires 8 inputs and finding the right combination requires you to pay attention to the number of turns taken in the long, mazelike hallway that got you into the room, and that hint is a crazy riddle. If you're a puzzle game fan, and you like RPGs, try the Grimrock games. They're not easy, but man they're good, especially the 2nd one.

Love and agree with the inclusions of The Unfinished Swan and The Witness. Not sure Portal makes my list, but it is certainly influential and iconic. Also enjoyed The Pedestrian, Gorogoa, and The Gardens Between, but not sure I would place them in my top list. My Top: Toodee and Toodee The Unfinished Swan Filament The Witness Snapshot Trine 2 Unravel Inside Botanicula (or any of Amanita's games) Fez And there are probably a few others that are debatably puzzle games like It Takes Two, Snake Pass, or some other side scrollers, but I'm considering them platformers. Even Inside's inclusion feels somewhat questionable since I don't feel like it was puzzle focused but more atmospherically driven.
