Thank you for this - it is so reassuring. I waited for a long time to get any help because I was afraid of the weight lecture. When I did see a physio I was told was it was all my fault for gaining weight in menopause and not being active enough. It truly crushed me.- I sought help precisely because I want to be healthier. It took another few months and severe pain to pluck up courage to go back. Xray shows severe arthritis in my right hip and I am waiting to see an orthopaedic surgeon. I am absoloutely terrified of being turned away and given the same story. I am a nurse by the way- so I know it should not be like this- I am always very kind to my patients about weight issues, which makes it hurt even more when I am not treated the same way. Thank you for this breath of fresh air.

Thank you, Dr. David. Great information. I think strengthening the muscles is the best advice. I only wish I lived close to you. I would be in the office. 🇺🇸 PS I can't stand taking pain meds. Going to definitely check out your other videos. 👍

Hello but does it cause knee arthritis? My doctor told me if I didn't lose weight in ten years I'd need a knee replacement but here I am and I only have mild arthritis in my knees but I have lost weight and my hip bursitis keeps me from exercising

This is true. I am "thin", i.e. a healthy weight and I have such severe hip arthritis that I have to have a total hip replacement.

I have one hip that doesn't really bother me and that has mild arthritis. The other hip has severe arthritis. Bone on bone. I have hip dysplasia a congenital abnormality only in one hip.

Well I lost 60 pounds and I had a lot less pain, easier to walk move around and a lot more range of motion. So we need to stretch and exercise and pain keeps us not doing those things. So by loosing the weight, it helped in so many ways.

He didn't say that losing weight wouldn't help it. He just said weight may not have caused it. Of course losing weight would help. It takes pressure off of your joints. Strength training would also help, like he said.

I know he said it wouldn’t cause it. I’m just saying that it helped me with so many things. I just wanted to share my experience with that.
