Just a heads up- adult axolotls need a minimum of a 20 gallon long tank and need 30+ gallons (preferably 40+) for cohab. They also need to be within 1 inch of each other and have relatively the same size head. Also, black light is really bad for their eyes so only use a blue light *for a few minutes max* to see GFP.

A single axolotl should be provided a minimum of a 20 gallon long. My male is 12in long and would be too big for a 10 gallon. Two axolotls should be housed in a 30 gallon minimum, doesn’t matter if it’s 2 males or 2 females.
@robf.6273

Brenden Pare I personally like 55 gallon and 40 gallon breeders for 2 axolotls, but as a general rule of thumb 30 gallons should be the bare minimum. Naturally bigger is always better but most sources will note that a 20 gallon long is good for 1 adult axolotl and you add 10 gallons for every additional axolotl.
@devinscreaturecrew
4 жыл бұрын
This is definitely correct, although if you’re getting two axolotls, I would definitely recommend doing a 40 gallon breeder. I just upgraded my two super senior girls into a planted 40 gallon breeder and they are loving it- and it helps with their water parameters too. But it is correct that the minimum is 20 gallons long for one and 30 gallons long minimum for two.

Green tree frogs and gray tree frogs are invasive here and we have winters that dip into the very low forties and thirties(Fahrenheit), so they definitely don’t need heating. An alternative would be African dwarf frogs, they are even smaller and you can keep 3+ in a 10 gallon aquarium.

@ChloroformHM

I know this is an old comment but I figured I’d leave this here for anybody who is revisiting this video and seeing this. I’ve been keeping grey tree frogs for a few years now and they do need heating in certain circumstances. If you have a tank with no substrate and you want to see your frogs, you absolutely need heating. The reason they survive in the low forties and thirties is because they bury themselves and hibernate. If you do not provide heating, there are two outcomes here. 1) Assuming you have substrate, they might bury themselves occasionally you might not see them often if at all which is always a little bit of a bummer and can be stressful in situations where you need to clean their tank as waking them abruptly from hibernation can harm them, and 2) you do not have substrate in which your tree frog can not bury itself when it gets cold and it will be very stressed and miserable because it will not feel safe to hibernate. I’ve provided my tree frogs with heating pads and, in dire times (We get some pretty bad blizzard up here, it’s not surprising to lose power a few times), using handwarmers stuffed in socks and they haven’t tried to hibernate yet, meaning I get to see their cute little faces all year round.

A few years ago I used my 10 gallon tank for rehabilitation for a wild tiger salamander. It was mangled by a tractor (field tiller, mom found it, asked if I wanted a project), lost a leg and all of its tail. I had a 10 gallon tank sitting empty. So I turned it into a wild eco terrarium. Collected rocks from outside, dug up dirt from the field, collected spring tails and isopods from different areas around the property. Named the salamander Deadpool. A few months later everything was regrown, and he ate all the damn isopods I collected around the yard lol. Even though I was feeding him various insects I caught as well. Suppose regrowing things takes a lot of nutrition. I set him free in the garden area, where I know a ton of bugs love to eat our veggies. Hope he is living a good life out there. I did add a few more isopods before I let the tank to fend for itself. I haven't touched the eco terrarium in almost 2 years now. Never even open up the lid. Everything inside is still alive. I never even open it to water the plants. Really hate the idea of just tossing it all out. I am not sure what else to do with it at this point though. Before that I kept 2 breeder mice in the tank. To feed my little baby cute corn snakes pinkies. Froze the older ones, for my ball python. My mom used to hate seeing dead mice in her freezer lol. Sadly I had to give up my pet collection after I was 18 and moved. That was 21 years ago. Just starting to get back into having pets again. With 2 cockatiels, and 5 budgies. I really want a reptile or amphibian (limited space atm), just cannot seem to settle on what to get.

I love looking after things, I have so many plants lol, it’s just really good for my mental health. But plants sometimes aren’t necessarily as fun as having an animal that will love u back and interact with u. But unfortunately I’m on a very strict set requirements. My mom is allergic to everything with fur and feathers, I am limited on space, so it has to be small, I also don’t have much money so it has to be relatively inexpensive, and ideally it wouldn’t eat rodents or insects but I think that I could do it if it was my only option. I’m not scared of snakes, spiders, shedded skin, or anything else so if u have any suggestions I would love to hear it.

Consider Crested geckos. They stay kinda small. They can live in a 20 gallon their whole lives. They don't required live insects, just a crested gecko food formula diet. They don't need special heating or lighting because they thrive in room temperatures 60s-70s. No more than 80°F. They just need lots of plants to hide, high humidity, so you spray tank twice a day and their diet food. Its good to give them crickets as treats and extra protein but it is not necessary since they get all their nutrients in the diet food.

yea!, i've also heard both 20 gal and 30 gal min. for cresties. and tbh, even a 30 gallon isn't that big especially if it's vertical. and you might want to check out a little bit further - cresties are part of a group called New Caledonian Geckos, which have similar housing and caring needs, and some ppl find one they prefer over others. So there's gargoyle geckos, crested geckos, and chewie geckos. Leopard geckos also are similar habitat and temperament wise, except they like things a bit more horizontal and warmer and dryer because they're middle eastern desert species. hope you have a nice day, and gl !!

Now I have 2 beardies (1 male and 1 female) that are 3 months old and each are in their own 4x2x2 with diy badass backgrounds that you taught me how to make and they are happy as can be. The leo loves his certain big name store 40g, and last but not least, 😅 I am 3 weeks into breeding my own dubias( fingers crossed). I am so thankful for you and my wife isn't but she'll come around 👌. Seriously I hope you read this! THANK YOU and keep up the best damn channel KZitem has in my opinion. 👍

I learned something new - I've never heard of web-footed geckos before! They look so cute with their long legs and big cartoon-ish eyes! We've been keeping a Chinese Cave Gecko in a 20L here - he could probably live in a 10 gal right now, but when he's at full size, a 20L is probably more appropriate. He was so tiny when we got him! He's up to just over 8 grams now, and he has grown quite a bit since we got him. From my experience, they're a pretty easy species to keep, but you never really get to see them. An ideal setup involves lots of dark damp spots, which means I have a 20L full of fake plants and cork rounds, and if you dig around you might find a gecko.

I've learned just to skip the 10 gallons 🤣 even my baby leos go straight into a 20 gallon long. My 10 gallon has a pacman. I tried a 20 with him but he used none of it. He used 2 spots on one side and only moved when he pooped. So he downgraded to a 10 and actually started eating way better.

@@sahvanna97 They were all rescues from the same person ( he had a lot of bad crestie clutches and got a load of runts and he didn't have the time to take care and monitor them more than a normal crestie ) and i didn't feel comfortable putting runts in anything larger than a 10g at the time. Luckily they all pulled through fine with some TLC and are now all in their custom build 30 gallons

@@Bella-jc3ji Care standards changed early 2022, now a 29 gallon is the minimum recommended, with 40 being ideal. You shouldn't have more than one lotl in a 40 gallon, and then it's 10+ gallons for each additional one

Actually axolotls live in a pond/lake in mexico I don't really know what it is but the legend says that if your going to take on from the lake you should bring some water with you from the lake so they can live the rest of they're live under familiar waters even if you live galaxies away from the lake. (Update seems I've talked to fast he did say that on the vid I was just not on that part, sorry!)
