There are 8 Turkish companies that make pistols, 85 that make shotguns. Canik is owned by a company that makes aircraft parts for Airbus, Boeing, and Lockheed; they know hi-tech gear. Turkish Defense Industries (SSB) under the Indigenous Local Handgun Development (ÖYTG) Project delivered over 400,000 pistols manufactured by Sarsılmaz (HK clone), Samsun Yurt Savunma/SYS, CANIK (Walther clone) and Girsan (Beretta clone) to the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) and the Turkish National Police (TNP). The pistols had to meet or exceed the NATO and US test standards to be selected. They've won some Asian contracts. I've been issued the M15, M1911A1, M9 and M11. My Canik runs as well. It runs better than some of the M17/18s I've seen on military, police, and private ranges.

My theory for the quality discrepancy between the shotguns and handguns is that the handguns are being made for the US budget market but most of the shotguns are made for the Turkish budget market. So a company like Canik can make a 4 to 6 hundred dollar handgun and deliver a quality product with a decent profit margin, but if they tried to sell those handguns in turkey where the average monthly wages are much lower that 400 to 600 dollar pistol would be the equivalent in terms of affordability to a 5 to 6 thousand dollar pistol in the US market.

Excellent review.. I like the caniks but they have major flaw in the grip design that is why you can not shoot the gun fast enough as it jumps alot. I even emailed canik company about the issue and the remedy for enhancing the geometry of the design but no one even replied to my email.. On the other hand the SAR9 looks like they have addressed this issue by the specific shape of the grip at a specific location and the proof is the gun was dead stable in Kaya's hands as he was speed shooting it. IF CANIK GUYS ARE LISTENING I HAVE THE DESIGN IDE TO MAKE THE CANIK MORE STABLE AND EFFECTIVE FOR SPEED SHOOTING LIKE THE SAR9

You should qualify your statements on Turkish shotguns, James. No one can question the failure of the Turkish semi-auto and pump shotguns _you have tested._ That said... My experience with Turkish O/U and SxS shotguns is that they are excellent! I don't expect you have the patience to fire 500 or 1000 rounds through an O/U, but I own 2 Huglu 20 ga. O/Us my wife and I have used to fire 100 rounds a week, most weeks, for more than 5 years. For our weekly sporting clays rounds. No, we do not shoot them with buckshot or slugs. (news flash, most people shoot very few of those rounds) They are not fired quickly...it takes us all morning to shoot two rounds (50 targets each) of clays. But after all that firing and all those years, they both work perfectly, every two shots. A popular Turkish skeet and sporting clays semi-auto are the ATA Venza series. They are not "Benelli clones". They are not "tacticool", they are classic sporting shotguns for clay shooting and hunting.

Glad to see the SAR9 getting some exposure. I have the standard with 4.4" barrel, and the Sport with a 5.2" barrel. These have been totally reliable. I own a Glock 17gen4, Sig 320 Xtac, H&K VP9, Canik TP9, Walther PDP and a few others and yet I don't ever hesitate to take the SAR9 out. Trigger is not up there with the PDP, but neither is the Glock 17's trigger.

Nice vid for the morning coffee. Here is what you NEED to do. Post a poll and ask all your viewers to post their favorite Turkish handguns and then do a review of the top 5. Here are mine: Stoeger STR-9, Tisas GI (base model) 1911, & BRG-9. I acquired these new at the prices of $150, $199, & $189.

The one gun you guys chose that surprised me was the Tisas nightstalker 1911. I personally think the Tisas px-9 gen 3 nightstalker version would have been a better choice. (I've never been a 1911 fan). I would be interested in how you think the px-9 gen 3 nightstalker stacks up to 1911 version.

Dont know when this was filmed, but should have changed the "2011" for the Tisas B9R Carry. Love mine, it's sweet, reliable, and even though I have a Platypus and a Prodigy, the Tisas is right there with them. Cheaper than the Girsan, better out of the box trigger (unless Girsan has improved it since release), and Tisas is pretty well known to have good quality 1911s, and the doublestacks are just as good as their single stacks. Just my opinion, but you should check Tisas out.

Was going to buy Orthos shotgun that retailed 1800 and was a nice custom benelli m4 clone. I came across a real benelli retailing at 2200 for 1800 nevershot through consignment. Saved 400 and bought a hellcat. Pretty great buy for turkish shotgun.

I'm glad you made this video. I watch both channels, too, but i was really thinking about getting a witness. I think I'll get the tti or rival S instead,
