I was diagnosed with degenerative bone disease in my right foot at 42. Was told I would be in a wheelchair by 57. At 52 I read Good Calories, Bad Calories. Watched The Oiling of America. Switched to the old 1950s British diet in the prologue. Also started eating about a pound of butter a week. This went on for months. Then one morning walking down the stairs I realized my foot no longer hurt. About this time my butter eating returned to normal levels. I am now 65 and can hop on that foot. I am convinced that the butter fixed the problem. It is full of things bones need.

I always find myself feeling better after I take a shower and think about happy times. If you are home all day think of things or write down things that you want to do with your life. I am 54 with multiple disabilities. I have a high debt and work part time and collect Social Security Disability. I can’t afford eating out more then once a month. I recently found out I have a gallstone, only one but that was enough for me to eat better. I was already eating better by limiting the carbs sugar and fried food. I have been feeling better. Bottom line, think about what would make you happy? What foods do you love and enjoy them! I make myself eat a lot of vegetables daily because they just make me feel good. The carbs and sugar taste so good but always bring me down so I limit the bread to just a little a month but I will have a few tortillas if I am really craving them. I love to cook and always put a lot of flavor in all my meals. I hope you feel better it’s never too late to make changes. Also, always try to find something that will make you laugh. Stay away from video games. Listen to calm music. There’s so many beautiful things to enjoy in this world: coloring, painting, take a language class, salsa dance, or any other dance, study something new, get a small breed puppy and learn to take care of it… learn to cook, join a walk club, start going to Church, join the choir there… don’t be alone, move around always to exercise your body; see a therapist and / or tell your counselor at school… Get a part time job… I really hope you consider at least 3 of my suggestions. Love yourself, you are a wonderful child of God. Blessings…

As someone who now suffers from things that most likely were brought on by my bad eating habits, I want to thank those who bring us this knowledge so we can, at least, try to change upcoming sad outcomes. It may be too late for me but we all need to listen and learn from people making this knowledge available while we still can. Most of us will reach old age (which ironically many assume they won't so they don't worry about choices made when younger) and you don't want that to be compounded by chronic health issues like not being able to take a decent breath or avoid chronic pain and suffering. Deal with bad choices now while you are young enough to change things. If you don't see it as a problem take the time to visit low-income senior centers and talk to people who now suffer from their choices made years ago which then affected their ability to earn a decent living so they now live in isolation and despair while suffering. Don't take that path. Eat healthily, live well, and don't put your body through hell because you might just need it later in life.

Thank you for confirming what I was told about "disease" being caused by deficiencies. The one thing you left out was salt - unprocessed sea salt, more specifically. Salt is vital for maintaining a water balance between the inside and outside of the cells. Just as potassium regulates the water volume inside the cells, salt regulates the water volume outside the cells. Magnesium is important for water absorption into the cells. That aside, I used to be able to control my blood pressure using water and salt. I've not lived a very healthy lifestyle since I've gotten older, however, and just using water and salt no longer works. I know that secondary forces are involved that involve nutritional deficiencies. I've been forced to take medications to keep my blood pressure in check (and they don't always work). I've always known that medications lower the blood pressure only until they wear off - then more is needed. Thus, they don't "fix" anything if the problem keeps coming back. The trick is to find the cause and fix it. This, of course, brings us to nutrient deficiencies. My annual labs come back "clear" except for the blood pressure. I've tried researching and taking over-the-counter supplements on my own, but I don't really care for this hit-and-miss approach - I might take something that works against the meds I'm taking (plus, supplements can get pretty expensive - not a good thing in a fixed income). I've taken some notes on your presentation, and hopefully, it will narrow the search to fix the cause.

Keep in mind that RDA (recommended daily allowance) is not based on optimal health, it’s based on minimal to keep you alive and prevent a few major known nutritional diseases (e.g. scurvy). A lot of the research is based on mid last century military research on the minimum diet requirements to keep soldiers alive in the battlefield. The dosage amounts of vitamins required to optimally perform is often multiples greater than the RDA. If your fighting off a diseased state you’ll need therapeutic dosages in even greater amounts.

I love watching your videos they are so informative and easy to follow.... one question is there a good alternative to Fish/Seafood? I have a few seafood allergies and also don't really care for it. I'd love to hear what options I might have for alternatives...

I am happy I stumbled onto your channel, I am a healthier person and trying to educate and get those around me to make lifestyle changes. I'll admit, it's not really affordable where I live but I am happy to be making an effort. Happy to have cut out sunflower and canola oil. I now cook primarily with ghee. It doesn't come cheap though. Overall thank you so much for all you do. This also adds so well with what I do, I am a sports science teacher and physical trainer so prevention and healthy diet is my mantra. Cytto from Botswana

Dr Berg, I’ve been listening to you for a few yrs now. Just 3 weeks ago I totally changed my diet to eliminate bad carbs and added sugar. I am just not sure how much to eat!!! Do you have an app or recommend one to log the foods and show the balance of nutrients to help lose weight in a healthy way? I don’t eat pass 6 pm and before 10 am.

I agree that most doctors don’t take their patients‘ diets into consideration. Also, in my country, the health tables are lower, so a doctor here would tell you everything is fine while in the US they would diagnose a lack of something. Some years ago I struggled with depression and therapy didn’t help. Luckily I came across a book that led me to a doctor who diagnosed me according to American standards and I have been fine after that.

@@sugahoney89 I eat mostly vegetarian food, therefore I am sometimes low on amino acids. But, as I said, I was diagnosed and didn’t take supplements in a “trial and error” kinda way.

The Lancet is British. I grew up in Britain, I would never accept nutrition advice from the British. 😄 The Standared British Diet consisted of mostly wheat, sugar, potatoes and ground beef, with a roast on Sunday. On Christmas we would get half a very sour grapefruit, that was it for citrus. Salad a couple of times a year, a steak from a dairy cow that had died of old age, a couple of times a year. Frozen peas were the usual vegetable. Kale was unheard of. I didn't know the difference between a lettuce and a cabbage. I took a cabbage to a party once in New York and the host, who had asked for a lettuce, was incredulous. 😄 There was no vitamin D in England because the sun only came out one a month. So seasonal depression lasted year round. I was always cold and didn't grow very tall. BUT, upon arriving in ths US at age 21 had a steak that I could actually cut through 😋 . It took many more years to cut out wheat, but that solved my anemia and high cholesterol plus many other longevity benefits. Thanks Dr Berg.

Hi Dr. Berg! I've been taking 5K vitamin D daily for 12 years. (on the advice of an integrative medicine doc in SE PA) This summer, I moved 800 miles south and happily spent lots of time in the sun. After a few months, I found a new PCP here. I asked for a vitamin D test along with the standard blood tests she ordered. Lol 😂she was somewhat 'concerned' that the D levels were @100 & recommended I cut back. She also poo poo'd the notion that it guards against c0vid. I very much appreciate your work and Thank You for ALL the commonsense information your expertise provides us. We surely can't get it from within the current med system. Blessings to you and your family.

A great way to get more B vitamins is nutritional yeast (especially if you don't eat meat or red meat). I use Bragg's and I love it on my eggs, salads, etc. and it is soooo delicious.

True about general GP's. They treat the symptoms more than the root of the problem. I like to look for the root and then trie to see how this could be cured for my total well-being. As a child we learned about the -bread line diet. This was a wel ballensed diet based on al the less expensive foods. There days this diet has also become to expensive for most of the low income groups.

I had a lot of unexplained bruising and a good hematologist recommended I take a lot of vitamin C because we need vitamin C to make collagen and for our blood to clot correctly. That fixed it. He also put together that the SSRI I was on and had been for years had side effects that were contributing to the problem so I tapered off that.

He did a video somewhere on that, if I'm not mistaken I thought it was chelated zinc bc of its higher absorption rate.
