I'd like to give a shout-out to another honorable mention: Bendy and the Ink Machine. When that game first came out, the Internet gobbled it up; even after just the first two chapters, there were fan songs, comics, animations, and theory videos all over KZitem. But things really slowed down after the last two chapters were released, because the finale suffered from "Game of Thrones syndrome" and the devs went radio silent, changing names and starting, then cancelling another game. Then, in the eon it took to get the sequel out, the devs were exposed for some really crappy behind-the-scenes behavior (rushing, overworking, and ultimately firing employees en masse, not to mention lying about how much of the story they had planned out) and everyone began to see BATIM as nothing but an old Disney-style Bioshock ripoff.

Xenogears instantly comes to mind as a game desperately needing a remake. That game's story is absolutely legendary and the gameplay is incredibly unique, but the game is plagued by dated controls and visuals as well as a unfinished story that skips from the end of act 2 straight to the final dungeon with a text scroll in-between summarizing the rest of the plot because of budget and time constraints. If that game got an HD2D treatment like Live A Live and especially Star Ocean 2, I would scream. It would be a dream come true, but it's very unlikely since the IP is owned by Square Enix and the entire development team behind Xenogears became monolithsoft, got bought by Nintendo, and has made a far more popular spiritual successor series in Xenoblade that is just about to begin it's second arc. Unless Nintendo and Square agree to jointly work on the game with monolithsoft and Square Enix's HD2D studio team up to develop it with both Nintendo and Square publishing it, I don't see a Xenogears HD2D remake happening anytime soon.

Regarding XY's story and character issues,, apparently the story was supposed to be more ambitious and actually deal with the mystery of Megas and pokemon coming from outer space. Small tidbits of this remain if you know where to look, but when development of the game was running into the unmovable brick wall that is deadlines and the 3D models for pokemon was eating up resources and time as was, Gamefreak had to dial everything back and go with a far less ambitious or impressive story and characterizations. This is also why ORAS and Gen 7 have such emphasis on outer space or other reality themes. As for poor Zygarde, Pokemon Z was in the works but when Iwata died and the Wii U crashed and burned, the resulting fallout meant Pokemon Z got scrapped in favor of getting Gen 7 out faster in order to get Gen 8 on the upcoming Switch out ASAP. Zygarde's forms got relegated to an inconsequential bonus in SM.

How about an opposite, the top 10 games that were vindicated by History, dismissed at first when coming out, only for it to become far more appreciated. Asura's Wrath, at least in the online spheres I've seen, has become one of these games when a couple of recent games (FF XVI) looked at Asura's Wrath Boss template and ran with it. There's also the fact that Asura himself is such a popular character that he was in the running for being in the top 10 most wanted characters in Capcom's Vs games every year since polling for new characters has been run, and almost was DLC for MVC Infinite. Meanwhile, Club Penguin inevitably met with the same fate by being shut down. Once again, fans tried to bring the game and its legacy back… but Club Penguin got the short end of the stick. First of all, we have the obvious copyright claim problems from Disney. But the bigger one was when one attempted revival not only got shut down, but some of the people responsible for the attempted revival got ARRESTED! Why? IIRC, it was apparently because of child predatory activity. With that and the toxic community, I wouldn’t be surprised if Club Penguins dying legacy got tainted

The way I see it for DK64. The issue isn't the overabundance of collectables, let's be honest, that's kinda standard. The problem is the process. 5 characters that can only be swapped via Tag Barrels, and how the collectables are scattered, you are combing each area 5 times. Then there's the Fairies that you can't begin until the 2nd world because you need the camera, then the frustrating challenges for the Golden Bananas and how the races work. That alone can be tiring. That said, while I understand the frustration, I don't mind all that, because if I view each world all a large scale Zelda Dungeon like the Water Temple. Seeing how much I can get done with one character before needing to swap while memorizing the Bananas were is a lot of fun for me. I can see why someone can view that as overbearing and for good reason, but it's those same reasons, why *I* like DK64.

9. To say nothing of the minigames. Beaver Bother still gives me war flashbacks as it will make you question if they even tested this minigame. And then there's the beetle races, where you need to collect 50 tokens on the track and finish the race in first place. The problems: you lose 3 tokens if you run into the beetle, the beetle is really fast, and then there's the track design. The are sections with tight turns, no guard rails, and sections with tight turns and no guard rails. And if you fly off the track, you auto-fail and have to do it again! How to nerf the beetle? Step 1. Cut the beetle's speed. Step 2. Have the player only lose one token when the beetle hits them. Step 3. Have Squawks the Parrot respawn the player when they fly off the track. But this will give the beetle time to catch up. 7. The biggest gripe I have with X3 is the final battle with Kaiser Sigma, they made it too hard by giving him such a MASSIVE defensive hit box. 6. HEY! At least the games are actually playable. Also, although I do love Scarlet and Violet, it has some problems. There are random crashes, still no mega evolutions returning, and battle tower is gone. Battle tower being gone is a big blow, as the base game was lacking this, and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl had on launch day. Think about that. Lets just hope the DLC brings back Battle Tower. The first Megaman Battle Network. It introduced a brand new system, but that also meant it lacked the tweaks of later games like BN3, 6 or One Step From Eden. There's also several puzzles that didn't appear to be designed with random encounters distracting you halfway through, not helped by the ability to escape taking a slot in your folder. Not to mention the internet being a confusing mess where everything looks the same, even the Undernet. Battle Network 4 met a similar fate. It was praised by reviewers as the best one, but closer examination showed so many cracks that many nowadays consider it to be the exact opposite, give or take some leniency to 1 for being the first. The idea of focusing solely on tournaments turned out to be detrimental, given it gave Nebula little to nothing to do. The writing that made the N1 tournament so beloved is not successfully copied either. There's also the small problem that to access the postgame you must beat the entire game *three times* and as a result it becomes a prime example of a new game + that only makes its game less enjoyable. The reward is also widely regarded to be a copout, having no new bosses besides Bass and the associated area being an obvious reskin.

I liked playing TLOU1 and still have fun times playing it but even on the first playthrough, there were so many questionable things in the story. When it starts, you can already tell Sarah is going to die because she's not Ellie, who is plastered everywhere in promotional art and the game cover. Joel and Tommy decide that they should leave and go to a safe place, like i dunno, the city where most people are. This quickly led to them being attacked by infected and then shot at by a soldier. What were they thinking? Several character deaths are either forced, you don't care or you're happy they're gone. Fireflies don't make sense. You can't make a vaccine for fungus. Even if you could (or the infection was spread by a virus), how would you be able to mass produce it and spread it across the world? You can't, but that's assuming they would actually do that. They were either gonna keep it to themselves or use it as a bargaining chip. They also don't shave Ellie's head before operating on her brain. Worse part is when they point a gun at Joel while he's applying CPR to a child, then knock him out. Also the child is the very reason for all of their sacrifices so far. He's trying to save her lol. Imagine having actors wearing mocap for realism and having AAA production value but then have screenwriters this bad?

TLOU's ending is also basically a somewhat better version of Prince of Persia '08's, including requiring the DLC to learn the male lead's true motive for saving his female ally from a death intended to save the world beyond merely having feelings for her, said motive being to seek a more workable solution to the force tainting the world and said female ally not being on board with the idea to the point of resenting the male lead. That said, games aren't obligated to have happy endings any more than stories in other mediums are, so "thanks for making me feel like an idiot for being invested", even in the context of the literal investment involved, is dismissing the point of TLOU and PoP '08. And at least TLOU got a sequel to close out its story.

New idea for a countdown: "Top 10 Spiritual Successor Games" Games that were created to honor dead franchises (Or dead to the developers -_-) by being similar and nostalgic to the cult classics that inspired them. For example, "A Hat in Time" was a throwback to old 3D collectathons like DK64 and Mario Sunshine. "Axiom Verge" was created by a singular man who wanted to recapture the charm of the OG Metroid. "Bug Fables" is basically the old turn-based Paper Mario only GOOD. And "Phoenotopia: Awakening" was everything Zelda II should have been and SO much more (Sucks no one knows about this gem due to poor marketing and sales that killed any hope for the sequel). Heck, you could even argue "Blue Fire" is a worthy spiritual successor to Hollow Knight what with how long Silksong has been delayed (Insert Half Life 3 joke here).

Team Flare's motivation actually makes sense. Team Galactic's motivation only makes sense in Platinum. BDSP didn't do them any justice since they followed the exact same plot-line as in Diamond and Pearl. At least with Team Rocket in FireRed and LeafGreen it makes sense since those came out back in Gen III, and as for HeartGold and SoulSilver, they used a limited time event to expand on Team Rocket in terms of story, where Giovanni actually heard the transmission from the Goldenrod Radio Tower and was about to rejoin them, only to be defeated by the player.

As for the reused assets, I'm a Yakuza fan, and they've turned reusing assets into an art form by reusing assets constantly but compensating by making really great stories and ganeplay, so maybe I've kinda been conditioned to not care about asset reuse so long as I enjoy the end product.

The first game is still mostly well regarded. The gameplay isn't super unique, but it's definitely functional. The story and general writing, while there are games that surpass it, you might be underselling it here. The plot isn't groundbreaking, but the character writing is evidently pretty effective given how well regarded Joel and Ellie are (in the first game). The second game... being what it is just led to different camps of opinions. Those who love it to death, those who outright despise and ignore it, and those who are neutral about it (I'm in the latter). But I wouldn't say that warrants Last of Us as a whole "falling from grace." And while the show didn't have the biggest impact, it was still a success. I don't blame Josh for not being a fan of it, it's not for everyone, but the way that entry was written really makes it seem like it belongs on an "Overrated Games" list, and not this one.

Agreed, it doesn’t really feel like it belongs on this list when unlike most of these other games, the public perception of it has never really changed. If anything, even more people like it now than they did so beforehand now that it got plenty of new fans with the HBO show.

the sad part about conker is that it was gonna get a sequel but then Microsoft bought rare and told them to scrap it and remake the original so to spite them rare make the remake WORST than the original so that's probably what killed it the most

With regards to Team Fortress 2: What maps are you trying to play that takes 10 minutes to join? In my experience, it's never more than 30-50 seconds before I join a match. Also, being banned for abandoning a casual match was removed on July 22, 2016. (Also, the previously mentioned wait time for matches was also cleared up in that patch). Also from my experience, bots are (thankfully) only limited to Capture the Flag games. So, my experience with bots are minimal, especially if you play on a map they don't immediately go for, like Double Cross, where the teams are quick to notice and kick them.

A Kingdom Hearts fan calling TLOU's story "mediocre" and the writing "cringe". This is it, ladies and gentlemen, we have hit peak irony.

If anything, I feel like Dead or Alive would fit here.. mostly because Koei Techmo tried to turn it into an Esport, and we all know what that leads to.

Oooh this has the potential to be Josh's most controversial list so far... Edit: Welp I was right HHHOW D A A A R E YOU SIR! XY was an amazing gameplay experience, TONS of Pokemon to choose from to build up your team! For as weak as the story is, the overall smoothness of the gameplay was what got me back into the series!...before the Switch Era left a bad taste in my mouth-SHUSH! Jokes aside great vid Josh always happy to hear your takes ^^

Giving a like just for the The Last of Us call out. I too am pretty mad about the gaming story revisionism about how "finally videogames can be taking seriously". It is a good game, but by far one of the most overhyped.

Wow, who would've guessed, Josh hates on The Last of Us. This video has me convinced this guy has a hate boner for the game, because he can't seem to say anything nice about it and is just hating on it because he doesn't like cover shooter games or whatever. And yeah, he IS being contrarian about it, because TLOU IS a genuinely good game, it wouldn't get so many glowing reviews and it reputation it has if it wasn't. Does it have flaws? Course it does, what game doesn't, I do think the game can be pretty dang slow at times with its pacing, the gameplay isn't exactly mind-blowing, and outside of Joel and Ellie, not a lot of the characters are interesting, but otherwise, the story STILL holds up great as this tragic journey of a man who's lost everything, gets a surrogate daughter figure, and ultimately can't bring himself to part with her, even if it means screwing over the world (which as a b.t.w. there is a log about how they're not even sure that this procedure will WORK, so it kinda makes the choice a lot less poignant than they made it). This isn't a story about a "generic zombie apocalypse", it's about a human spirit. .not all zombie/infected apocalypse games have to be all about the zombies or whatever, they're about seeing how humanity and people react to it, how they change because of it. . and the fact that Josh just can't seem to see that. . I'm sorry, he's just flat out biased and wrong. . Yeah, Josh is wrong about TLOU and has a hate boner for it. .FIGHT ME!

As much as I will admit, yeah Shenmue aged like spoiled milk. I still like it. It still gave me that feeling of I can do anything in this world. If I so choose, I can spend all my money in the arcades playing old SEGA games, Or I could ransack my house and take some matches from my fathers room. But yeah like I said, its clear now that Shenmue walked so Yakuza can run. But man I love both still.
