In part 2 of our series on the Quran's View of the Bible, Dr. Shabir Ally says that whatever the Quran says about the Torah, Psalms Gospel and other scrolls should not be construed to mean the whole Bible. Moreover, when the Quran speaks of the Torah, Psalms, Gospel and other scrolls, one has to keep in mind the context of the Quranic discourse. Most often, the Quran is referring to these as books given to the previous prophets: Abraham, Moses, David and Jesus. Only seldom does the Quran refer to the books which Jews and Christians possessed at the time of the Quranic revelation. Context can help us discern the difference in order to better understand the Quran's message about the previous revelations.
