Learning how to create models for milling or lathing has never been easier than now. To do that you use CAD, or Computer Aided Design, software like Fusion 360, Solidworks or MasterCAM. For beginners Fusion 360 is a no brainer as they have options to use it for free, and once you are established, a subscription fee. CAM software, or Computer Aided Machining, is where you create the toolpaths that you take over to your machine.
In addition to the resources on our KZitem channel, there are all sorts of KZitemrs and creators sharing their knowledge to help people get started with CNC machining. Our favorites are Titan Gilroy from Titan's of CNC and John Saunders from NYC CNC. Both walk you through the creation of parts on CAD and CAM software then show you how to mill it out on your machines, with all sorts of workholding and milling techniques, all for free.
